Hi, all, I'm writing to ask for some advice. I'm currently a P1 at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences center I have been selected for a phone interview for a summer internship at Walgreens. With that said, I would like to know if there is anyone out there who has participated in the program. If so, could you please tell me what your interview was like, and your actual experience in the program. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.🙂

My P1 interview with Walgreens didn't go well. They have canned questions that they type into a computer. The questions have nothing to do with pharmacy. I got rejected and signed on with Eckerds. The following year, I was asked by a Walgreens recruiter why I didn't intern with them the first year. I told her how horrible the interview went, how I don't appreciate impersonal canned questions and having my results put in a computer and analyzed. She apologized, gave me a personal interview and hired me on the spot.

what types of canned questions did they ask if you don't mind?

I interviewed for the Walgreens summer internship program in CA. It was rather conversational, no list of questions or anything. The interviewer just looked at my resume and asked questions about my past experience. I knew a lot about Walgreens and their computer system, so that was a bonus. But overall, it was an easy interview. They hired me for this summer, so I am happy =)

It was 3 years ago. I don't really remember the specifics. It was stuff like, how would you react in this situation, what would you do, etc.

"Do you think stealing is ALWAYS wrong?"

I answered the question as if it were a question on an advanced ethics exam - "No, but I think stealing is always questionable". I didn't get hired. It's OK - Walgreen's isn't for me since they do drive-thrus - but that's another thread.

They offered me an internship, and I am happy to have it.

I was a Summer intern for Walgreens last summer in Phoenix and loved every minute of it. I had a great preceptor, supervisor and DM. I really learned alot not only about retail pharmacy in general but also the company. We went to the distribution center in Flagstaff and also the mail order facility in Tempe. Very interesting and I highly encourage anyone thinking about the internship program to definitely participate.

I am also interested in the Walgreens internship...does anyone know if it is paid or volunteer work? Also, is it full time during the summer?

My work experience with Walgreens has been great~ my interview process was held on campus a year ago (2006) and the District Manager was extremely nice, he made the conversation very neutral and comfortable. There was suppose to be a series of questions ask, but was not that way at all. My advice is NOT to be nervous and be honest as possible. Tell them what you want in their company and for some parts you may need to stretch it by telling them what they want to hear. But most importantly, be prepared- do the research and keep your confidence high! 👍
