i've been offered summer intern position at Walgreens and Savon in S. Cal. Has anyone worked in these companies before??? Since I am a P1 and don't know much about retail pharmacy, any advice?

I know Savon will be converted to CVS in June, does CVS plan to close down some of the Savon stores?

I assume from your screen name you are in CA? I have not seen yet in print what CVS intends with the Sav-ons. There were some store shutdowns in the last acquisition (Eckerds) but I think this situation might be a bit different just because CVS had very little market penetration in CA before this deal was made. So, generally, I think they want all the stores. In FAL, the Eckerds that got closed were stores with undesirable real estate (i.e. old in old strip shopping centers) or very poor performing stores - most of the stores were simply converted over to CVS. I would ask some questions of someone at the Sav-on store before I took it, but assuming they don't have reason to think the store might be shut down, it might actually be an interesting time to work there.

I work for CVS in southern california, and according to my pharmacy manager they will be converting the stand alone Sav-on stores they have acquired (I believe the sav-ons inside albertson's grocery stores belong to a separate company now) to the CVS system. You should really ask your store before accepting the position....It might be a little bit hectic during the transition period and might not be the best environment to learn in.
