I recently got offered a pharmacist position with Walgreens. I'm a P4 from out of state and been working for the company for a while. In other words, I know pharmacists generally don't get breaks. Additionally, where I am from, pharmacists get paid $5-10 more when they do overtime. Just curious about the work conditions in California (specifically Bay Area). Also wondering if I will get lunch breaks and how overtime is paid. Thanks.

1.5x over 8h/day
1hr lunch break
House price 3-4x

Thanks for the replies guys! How can pharmacists get breaks or lunches at Walgreens? Do we ge to close down the pharmacy for 30 minutes? Like I said earlier, I'm from out of state and for pharmacists to get breaks is still shocking to me.

if you dont have overlap then yes, you have to close. CA labor laws are awesome, love seeing CVS comply with this

California has one of the strictest and most worker friendly regulations in the country as they relate to breaks and OT. The last time any pharmacy chain tried to encroach, there were multiple lawsuits and settlements.

I kept getting settlement checks for years after I left.

As an employer in an unrelated field, there's no secret what employees are entitled to here.

how many walgreens pharmacists actually take the 2 15s? only 30 min is mandatory and monitored

Almost every store I've worked at combines the two 15's with their lunch and take 1 hr. Do you work for walgreens in the bay area?

Not walgreens... and ummm there must be overlap then because pharmacists can only leave the pharmacy for no more than 30mins at a time... this is srsly unheard of anywhere in California out of all the pharmacies I have worked at... makes me wonder what kind of pharmacists you have worked with

There is overlap on weekdays. On weekends we used to close the pharmacy for 1 hr, but recently some managers have started making us only close for 30 min, so some stores don't take 1 hr lunches on weekends anymore.

Yeah... that's not how it works. You can not take the 2 15 minutes breaks consecutively and you definitely can't combine it with your lunch breaks. Whoever's doing this better hope upper management doesn't find out. I actually haven't worked with anyone that actually take their breaks either...
