Hey all, typical pre-med student here. I've been cold calling a lot of places with zero success. I'm thinking of bringing a cover letter and a copy of my resume to the office of a doctor I'm interested in shadowing (we're from the same area, same undergrad, same ethnicity, and she went to my dream/reach med school). But, I already called the office and they told me that they currently "don't offer this". So, is it worth it for me to walk in with my stuff in an envelope and ask for it to be handed off to the doc? Also there's another doctor who works in the same office as she does if that makes any difference in my situation since I've heard the response rate is better for a private practice. Thanks y'all!

Reach out to family friends, to alumni, to other sources of networking/connections. That's the easiest way to get to a doctor quickly. If he/she knows you or knows someone who knows you, it's a lot easier to get into contact and to secure a shadowing spot.

I was in your situation last year. I wanted to shadow a DO and I had no connections. I basically gave 5 copies of my resume and cover letter to my family doctor and ask him to help me find a DO. He was very helpful and got me set up with someone.

I went with family doc connections as well. My parents are older and see a lot of specialists and have done so for many years. When I hit a wall on cold calling I had my mother ask her ENT if he was ok with it or if he knew a colleague who would be. This only works if your parent is supportive and ok with it of course, but its definitely an avenue I think a lot of us "grown up" college grads don't always exploit because we don't want to over rely on our parents anymore.
