Walmart no longer hires full time for new employees?

I was told by a long-term manager pharmacist at Walmart, that new employees, intern or not, are only hired part-time and then there is a competitive process of comparison to see who gets full-time? He said it was national policy?

Anyone here about this?

Are you talking about technicians or pharmacists or both? My bosses at CVS are encouraging us to hire only part-time technicians for better schedule optimization and, what they're not saying, that it's cheaper (no benefits, no minimum weekly hour requirements, etc)....but that's a different company.

This does hold some truth. If you were an awesome intern then you'll get hired Ft if you are liked by your market manager. If you were so so intern then you'd be offered a PT position until you prove your self. I heard this straight from a market manager (district manager)

It probably depends on where you live. My BFF was recently hired by WM as a full-timer. Incredibly, the store is adequately staffed, too.

I heard from some of my friends, who graduated in May that got hired by Walmart, that a lot of those salaried jobs are still part time. You would get hired and paid salary wages based on a certain number of hours they assign to you. So, in theory, you could be a 32 hour per week salaried employee. This may only be for their districts though.

CVS doesn't allow any full time techs in my district anymore. There are still a few full timers from before the rule but must techs are churn and burn if they don't quit before the training period is over. I don't see why anyone would want to work there unless they are there for the job experience or enjoy tending to a customer coming to pick up after a refill reminder call every 30 seconds while trying to run production, answer the phone, and check in the drug order for 7.25 an hour.

This is true. You can be salaried with benefits at 32 hours. This is something very new and may not be in all districts quite yet.
