NYU does not give IS after first year...

Welcome to the forums.

Any participation in academic enrichment or predental recruitment events? You mention the diversity fair at AT Still, but any other Impressions Days?

Why is UWashington on your list? I don't get the out-of-region public schools: Michigan, Minnesota, Maryland, Buffalo, Ohio State, UConn, or UNC? If cost is a factor, why not apply HPSP? What is your purpose as a dentist?

NYU does not give IS after first year..
I put NYC because I love NYC and my boyfriend would love to live there too. Hopefully I can still apply for HPSP or some sort of scholarship to alleviate those costs.

UW has always been my dream school because I used to be a resident in Washington and I love the climate there. More importantly, their mission aligns and they have a unique pediatric division that I'm interested in. UW also offers PSEP that allows for IS tuition. Everything about UW is what I'm looking for. I do plan on applying for HPSP but it's not guaranteed and I don't want to rely on that. Californian schools are in my region but they seem to be too expensive due to cost of living. AT Still and Midwestern seem like they'll be more expensive than OOS tuition due to their private school nature. At that point it doesn't even matter what region I go to, right? I'm just trying to find schools that will be cheapest for me and a place I can imagine myself living in for 4 years and potentially obtaining licensure in.

So just clarify for me: how long have you been an Arizona resident? Has it just been during the duration of college? Was most of your childhood/pre-college life in Washington? Were you outside Seattle?

I'll agree that for Arizona applicants, your in-state choices are expensive privates. (I don't know if you applied for $1000, if it is still active... Alliance Dentistry Scholarship | Dentist Cary, North Carolina). Do you have access to the Dental School Explorer? I think there are maybe a couple of other Western schools you can tack on that could be friendly, though I don't know if they give you resident tuition after 1 year (though it might be listed on their profiles in the DSE).

We give our general warning about the costs for NYU and USC. Touro and Rutgers are the other NYC-area school that I think you could go for; both had admitted at least 1 person from Arizona. Would you consider moving to NYC if you don't get into any dental school in this cycle?

I am also worried about the non-clinical community service. What do you have in this bucket?

I have been a resident at AZ for over 10 years. I have only lived in Tacoma, Washington for a year between 6th-7th grade, but I remember very vividly that WA was one of my favorite memories. I have visited Seattle and I know that I love the city there. I don't have access to Dental School Explorer, but I do have a pdf although I didn't find it very useful since they only provided general information and not scholarship opportunities. Would you not recommend any of the other schools that will provide resident tuition after 1st year? All the ones I put on my list are cities that I can imagine living in. In fact, I'm on a family vacation here in Minnesota as we speak and I do love the scenery here. I'm pretty sure I won't apply to NYU. I just put that here in case you all would have any advice or inside-information I didn't know about to counter the costs. I don't think I would move to NYC prior to matriculation just because the cost of living. I spoke to the admissions at AT Still and they told me that my community service is great and not to worry about my hours; therefore, I focused more on dental experience. I am very involved in communities in terms of college campus, except most of them are unfortunately either compensated or related to a class.

schools that offer IS after the first year are extremely competitive because everyone wants to go there
while you have a perfect GPA, your DAT is below matriculant averages for all dental schools combined (20.5)
you need to have mission fit to get interviews and acceptances, "imagine myself living there" and "favorite memories" and "IS after one year" are not mission fit...

DSE access is $25 a year. (MSAR I think is $35 a year for the premeds.) It's worth getting access.

Realize that dental school is also about connecting with your local dental professionals and state dental society. While you can still move around, it's always a bit easier getting connected to the professionals closest to where you want to work (your first job), so location is important for that purpose, not just for getting IS tuition after your first year. If your ultimate goal is to practice in Arizona, it's best to stay as close to the state as you can.
