  1. cGPA and sGPA: 3.78. Both started lower during freshman year but have had a strong upward trend ever since. Biomedical sciences major, graduated Spring 2019.
  2. MCAT: 510 (129/127/128/126). Not super competitive, so I’m debating retaking but not sure yet. There's a risk of lowering my score, but I can also be more competitive by retaking and getting a 516 at least.
  3. State: FL
  4. Ethnicity/race: Caucasian (Middle-eastern)
  5. Undergrad: Large public university.
  6. Clinical experience: Volunteer scribe at a clinic for patients with no health insurance (210 hours), 2 volunteer medical trips to Peru (240 hrs)
  7. Research Experience: Current volunteer research assistant in influenza lab (1.5 years, 420 hours), 2 posters presented so far, and expecting to be named on a published paper (definitely not 1st/2nd author, but I’ll be named on this paper). Will have at least one more poster before applying.
  8. Shadowing: GI (30 hours), Asthma & allergy (40 hours). I’m looking to shadow at least 1-2 other physicians.
  9. Non-clinical volunteering: Most work was done through a premed organization, included volunteering at a daycare for kids with cancer, baking at Ronald McDonald House, city cleanups, etc (~140 hours). Definitely will be working on this part, I realize I need more hours here.
  10. Other EC’s: Peer mentor for other biomed students (~75 hours), microbiology lab TA for 5 semesters & lead TA for 1 of them (~400 hours), immunology lab TA for 2 semesters (~100 hours). I currently work with the advising department to help students make schedules, present at freshman/transfer orientations, and advise other premed students. I also have experience as a shift lead in a restaurant (3 yrs, avg 20 hrs/week).
  11. Honors/awards: Honors College
  12. Other info: I’m currently a substitute teacher in my school district. I started doing dissections with local high school students (mice, cow eye, sheep brain, etc) and really enjoyed it. So now I’ve become a substitute teacher so I can go to these biomedical science courses in local high schools and help students out. One more thing: My fiancee and I are both trying very hard to get into the same school. She has a 4.0, similar activities, same MCAT. We understand how competitive & difficult it is to do this but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

As for a school list, I don’t have one just yet, but I plan on applying to all FL +10-15 OOS schools, and UCF is my absolute top choice. If my GPA/MCAT were stronger, I’d do ED but I’m not quite there. Thanks so much in advance for reading/replying!

Get primary care shadowing.

If you're getting 516+ on official AAMC tests taken under conditions approximating Test Day, consider retaking your MCAT.
