Brief Note: To be 100% honest I do not know what I am doing I don't have any family in the healthcare field so I've just been trying my best on my own. I also didn't figure out I wanted to do dentistry till after my freshman year of college I am just super nervous my application actually sucks I haven't heard from Touro and I know they started sending out interview invites (same with PNWU but I now know they only take from WICHE states) Idk what I am doing and this is very nerve wracking I also understand I do not have a lot of experience directly tied to dentistry I am hopefully interviewing for a DA position at the end of July so hopefully I can update that if I get the position and add that in during interviews if I manage to snag one. I am so sorry in advance if this is bad idk what I am doing do I hopefully have a chance of getting into at least one school?

Have you volunteered/shadowed/attended events at any dental schools? Attended ADEA GoDental Conference this past May, I am going to a open house at Roseman this July
Relevant Honors or Awards: Deans List and Presidential Scholar (basic, just for maintaining GPA)
LOR type and strength: I do not know how to assess strength, but I had one from my organic chemistry professor who I peer mentored for, my human anatomy and physiology II professor, pediatric dentist I shadowed, and my manager at work (not academic or dental related but I figured since I had a lot of hours there she probabaly knows my character well)
Misc Info/Things not stated elsewhere/Red Flags:
I did attend a community college for two years (64 credits), however, all my courses transferred to my four year university and my GPA stayed relatively consistent so hopefully that is okay. 3rd Quartile for CASPER
School list:

(Apologies in advance I know my school list is probably horrendous, I mainly just applied to schools that somewhat alined up to my stats and that I could see myself going to I never lived on my own so I am kinda nervous about living in a city 🙁 )
- Roseman (My top choice I love the team based atmosphere and they all seem super nice) (I did complete my Kira so hopefully that is a good sign lol)
- University of Utah (I do have a strong connection to the state of Utah (I was born and raised there but moved due to military/not me my dad), I also have several family members who have graduated from the school, I tried making as much as a connection as possible in the supplementals)
- Virginia Commonwealth University (In-state school)
- West Virginia University (Regionally close)
- Touro (stats somewhat aligned)
- UNE (I also really like this school)
- Creighton University (Not really connected to Nebraska but I do like the school the faculty were super friendly)
- PNWU (Realized they only take from WICHE States after I applied)
- University of Washington (I thought the faculty was very friendly and the director encouraged me to apply when I met her at the event and we talked about the RIDE program)
- University of Colorado (stats somewhat aligned)

you need to chill
your application is pretty strong
just because you applied early and weren't in the first touro group does not mean your application is weak
step away from reddit and SDN and trust the process...

im very sorry ive just been so anxious and just doubting everything i did i probably do need to step away ive been lurking on reddit and SDN like everyday atm thank you for your advice i really appreciate it <3 i will try to trust the process more i hope you enjoy your day

I know it seems scary and it feels to you that you got skipped over when other people are getting interview invites before you but that's perfectly normal. I knew people who sent their application in on the first day but they didn't get an interview until a bit later, that's just how they do it for some reason. It's the same way with acceptances, they skip around when calling for acceptances and you feel like you got skipped. You'll be fine and just be patient!

You can stay on SDN at least for a more supportive community than reddit. 🙂

Notice how the class size has increased along with the number of interviews to fill them. If they are trying to fill another 200+ person class, be patient and trust the process. First-round offers go out in December; we have plenty of time.

That said, from your WAMC, I remark that most of your community service is about tutoring or teaching, not necessarily in direct face-to-face service to a community (like food distribution, shelter volunteer, job/tax preparation, legal support, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation). While you aren't a premed (where a threshold number of hours makes an applicant desirable), you should have around 100 hours that gets you outside of a classroom-like setting or being a subject-matter expert to show your ability to connect with others in a "non-professorial" way. Your major is in community health, and I would expect some experiences that support your major where you are in the field; maybe you don't list that because those activities are more associated with completing your degree vs. doing something where you want to help others directly without it.

PS. PNWU: we have an interview with the dean, and sorry you didn't realize their geographic preference before.

Thank you very much for your support! That is good to know they skip around sometimes I just thought they look at it from the order of submission and go yes, no, yes, no, and I was absolutely no. It is good to know I maybe still have a chance with them! Also, big congratulations for being a current D1! I know you will be an amazing dentist! I hope you enjoy dental school! 🙂 THANK YOU

Thank you very very much for your help and honest feedback Mr.Smile12! You have been a most wonderful support for predental students on SDN! 🙂

The interviewing process is just a very new thing for me, so I will definetely try to adopt more patience. I did not know they increased their class size so thank you for informing me that is great to know.

100% understandable! I think I was pretty passionate about education before my whole pre-dental journey (I almost went into school to become a teacher), so somehow I kept ending up in teaching/tutoring positions (which I loved and am very grateful for). I did try to describe them as transferable to my ability to provide better patient education and communication with diverse age groups so hopefully that helps a bit 🤔 Also, in the organization that I was president for we did help with food sorting/distribtion events and also volunteered with individuals with Alzheimer's so hopefully in interviews if questioned about that I can give more clarity to that experience. I have been working on my own volunteer "program" to make handouts with oral health information and local low-income dental clinics and also coloring sheets or activities for kids to learn about dental health I was then hoping to donate these resources to shelters/schools/etc., however, this is still a work in progress so I did not mention it on my application also because it is more of a personal mission at the moment. Do you think this may be good to mention in interviews 🤞 to show my ability to connect to people and show more in the field experience?

Also very helpful about PNWU!! Its kinda funny I was able to attend a virtual information session with the school a few days after I submitted and thats where I found out. I lived in Washington for like a year or two and I loved the state which has also drove me to apply to the two Washington schools, nonetheless still does not make me instate :/

Again, thank you for your feedback your expertise and experience is very much appreciated! I am sorry for the rant I was kinda spiraling last night.

Thank you for all the work you do Mr.Smile12 🙂

do not stress, I feel pretty good about your stats and application assuming your PS is good. You need to try to not worry because with these stats, you will likely get into somewhere assuming you can handle the interviews too. Just take a deep breath. You are in a hard quiet time where you submitted and are waiting to hear back for interviews, there is not a whole ton you can do right now. If you want to start prepping for interviews you can DM me and I can try to help!

Thank you I really appreciate it! Yeah you have nothing to worry about, you'll get there and just never give up even if you feel like things are looking gloomy.
