Date of submission: 07/11/2024 for some schools (UTHSC, OU, UF, Meharry), the rest in progress
Overall GPA: 3.45 cGPA
Science GPA: 3.61 sGPA
Bio-Chem-Physics GPA: 3.75 BCP
DAT score (include AA and all sections): 21 AA/21 TS/24 PAT/22 BIO/20 GC/20 OC/21 RC/20 QR
State of Residence: Tennessee

Major: Exercise Science
Minor: Biology, Chemistry

Shadowing Experience: 250 hours general, 40 hours OMFS, 20 hours orthodontics
Volunteering Experience: 160 hours as VBS Church Coordinator, 80 hours as food bank volunteer, 150 hours tutoring, ~50 hours coaching church league basketball
Employment: 800 hours as an immunizing pharm tech, 800 hours managing my family business, 1000+ hours working as an insurance and billing coordinator at a new dental clinic with a dentist that i have a good relationship with
Research: 80 hours, 1 presentation
Other Extracurriculars: ~300 hours of leadership with on-campus organization, ~1000 hours active service through church
Have you volunteered/shadowed/attended events at any dental schools? no
Relevant Honors or Awards: Deans List 2022-2024
LOR type and strength: 2 Strong Science (Orgo 1 and 2, Physics 1 and 2 Professors), 2 VERY strong from general dentists
Misc Info/Things not stated elsewhere/Red Flags: I had straight C’s my freshman year with a 2.2 GPA. I got a C in Bio 1 and 2, I’m worried that it’ll affect me. I haven’t received anything less than an A since the end of my sophomore year if that helps. I also helped and was heavily involved with the process of opening a new clinic with an old mentor.

School list:
UTHSC
Meharry
Nova
UF
Oklahoma
Texas A&M
UAB
Kentucky
Louisville

I'm not sure what schools I should add or if this is a good list. I want to attend a school that emphasizes clinical care and has continuing education options, specifically ortho or OMFS.
are you URM?

are you URM?
not 100% sure what you're referring to, but I'm assuming it's for under-represented minorities, which I do consider myself to be. first gen college student and the first in my family to be born in the USA

Then you are applying to Meharry as an in-state applicant without knowing whether you fit the program's mission (if you don't understand that URM means here).

Overall, your list consists of public schools, so you need to see whether you have a strong profile as an out-of-state applicant, knowing there are way fewer seats. Mission fit therefore becomes key, and it's not clear you have one. Your C's in your freshmen year are calculated with your GPA, and since your major is exercise science, your grades in upper-level biomedical science courses like microbiology and human physiology will matter.

I don't get why you want to go to UFlorida. You have Nova but not LECOM. I don't get why Oklahoma or Texas A&M. Your metrics might be interesting at UAB, Kentucky, or Louisville, but you have to check the OOS stats. Check out the newer schools and wait until their AADSAS portals open. Add a few more private schools in the area.
