I've made a post on here before and wanted to make an updated post now that I'm in the thick of it with the VMCAS application 🙂

Female, OR resident, 1st time applicant
Cumulative GPA: 4.0 (but likely to drop to 3.9 at the end of this term, a particular class is giving me grief)
Degree: Wildlife science

Schools Applying: OSU, WSU, NC state, Purdue, Mizzou

GRE results: Not taking

Veterinary Experience:
Vet assistant at SA/exotic clinic: 500 hours (current, will be 800+ at time of applying)
Vet assistant at canine PT clinic: 150 hours
Shadow and kennel assistant at SA clinic: 320 hours
Exotic vet shadowing: 8 hours

Animal Experience:
Wildlife rehab (across four different rehab centers): 1,260 hours
Feral cat TNR program: 80 hours
Pet store job: 350 hours
Deer research job: 300 hours
Petsitting: 100 hours

Research Experience:
Woodpecker research job: 150 hours
Research (and animal handling) through clubs and classes: 20-30 hours (don't know if I should add)

Extracurriculars:
2 club leadership positions
Volunteer with environmental org.: 200 hours
Volunteer with a heritage group: 250 hours
Other various volunteer projects ~100 hours
Lots of stuff from high school that I could add
A few random hobbies (not animal related)

Other Employment:
Student tech at a vet diagnostic lab: 170 hours

Letters of rec are coming from two vets I work with currently and the vet who I worked with doing canine PT. Essay is... not coming well.
Any advice for where to focus my efforts this upcoming summer? Or specific advice for these schools? I know a couple do holistic applications.

The only thing I’d say is maybe get some large animal experience if possible but you have SA exotic and research so I don’t even think you need it tbh
