Separate out the clinical volunteering from the shadowing. What ethnic background do you come from?

How many hours for the bolded?

If you are in a combined program and you can still maintain a guaranteed acceptance while applying out, it can be worth trying to see where else you receive interest from.

If you qualify for the fee assistance program from the AAMC, you could try these 20:

Any other schools in your state (if you like them more)
UVA
WUSTL
Vandy
Penn
Columbia
UCSF (especially if Vietnamese, Filipino, or Hmong)
Kaiser
Mayo
NYU
Rochester
Einstein
Hofstra
Miami
Case
Cincinnati
Ohio State
Michigan
Western Michigan
Northwestern
Iowa

This is a great starting point - I appreciate your insight! Some of my favorite schools are Vandy/Penn/Columbia and Northwestern, especially coming from the Chicago area.

I was wondering what your thoughts were for Keck at USC? In addition, I was concerned with UC schools potentially not providing enough financial aid (I would be out of state).
You could try Keck, I do not know how often they provide significant aid and COL is very expensive there. UCSF can provide significant financial aid and students are reporting that they can now change residency after 1 year of being a student. However, I do not think the other UC schools would be worth an app as UCLA and UCSD expect significant ECs. The other UCs do not take many OOS students and do not view the specific Asian populations I mentioned the same way that UCSF does.
