Looking for help with school list. I'd like to apply conservatively to maximize my odds of getting in.
  1. cGPA: 3.77, sGPA: 3.56 (sizeable upward trend with sGPA)
  2. 523 MCAT - C/P: 130, CARS: 129, B/B: 132, P/S: 132)
  3. VA resident
  4. White
  5. Flagship public university
  6. ~1000 hrs clinical experience so far as a scribe/MA in a private ENT practice
  7. Zero research
  8. 20 hours shadowing an ENT, half office half OR
  9. 100 hrs distributing meals to and talking to homeless people on the street about their lives/experiences/how they're doing with through church group
  10. skilled pianist, participated in jazz ensembles throughout undergrad.
  11. Graduated with "high distinction" for senior year music recording project
  12. comp sci/music double major graduated 5/2021
  13. worked as a landscaper for a few summers
  14. superior writing skills (have been told this by profs)

Weaknesses:
1. Lack of volunteer hours. I intend to get more before applying.
2. I have two LORs from science profs whose tough classes I aced that are both likely very generic (Neither of the profs know me in a meaningful way). I wasn't able to get more personal letters because I decided to go premed the summer after third year, and at that point all of my science classes were online with hundreds of other students. I realize generic letters aren't really worth much but so many schools seem to require letters from science profs. I will be getting a third LOR from one of the doctors I work for which will be stronger/more personal, for schools who don't require the letters to be from science profs I could get one from another doc I work for and one from my college band director.

Would like urban campus if possible, definitely not a deal breaker though.

List so far:
UVA
VCU
EVMS
VA Tech?
Georgetown
Loyola (I know this is a long shot with my lack of volunteering but I like that they're Jesuit)
Einstein?
Mt. Sinai?
UMichigan
UIC
Rush
2Lane
Tufts
Temple?
UMiami
BU

Are these sensible schools for me to apply to? I could keep combing MSAR and checking websites to add more. Would be open to maybe adding a couple DO schools as safeties.

Rush isn’t. They expect hundreds if not thousands of service hours from their applicants and they get them. You need some shadowing hours with a primary care doc. Don’t worry about research but keep at your nonclinical volunteering. If you currently have 100 hours, you’ll have more by the time you apply.
Good luck.

Thoughts on revised school list? Is this a pretty realistic/good/likely to generate IIs? I added some extra low-OOS-yield/reach NYC schools because I'd love to live in NYC for the jazz scene. I have some decent ties to Michigan. I'd rather not go to a super rural school, would prefer more urban environment. I nixed Duke because looking at the secondary made me nauseous

I have an extra 65 non clin volunteer hrs now as an ESL teacher and another 1000 hours scribing/MAing (I scribe and work patients up mostly)

UVA
VCU
EVMS
VA Tech
Einstein
BU
Case
Columbia
Drexel
Gtown
Mt. Sinai
Northwestern
SUNY Downstate
Tufts
Michigan
Pittsburgh
Wayne State
Cornell
Western MI
Cincinnati

Drexel and Wayne State will probably "yield protect" with your stats. You should receive several interviews from the other schools on your list. You could add Hofstra and Jefferson.

Bump/Update: No IIs so far, rejected from Georgetown and Pitt. Would it be wise to submit a few more MD apps to schools with later deadlines/lower average stats or perhaps a few DO apps (I was thinking state schools like MSUCOM and OSUCOM)? Maybe I can tell the lower stat schools I have no interviews rn to avoid yield protection lol.

In terms of activity updates I'm probably up to 3k hours MAing/scribing and almost 100 hrs doing the ESL volunteering.

This ended up being my final school list.

UVA
VCU
EVMS
VA Tech
Einstein
BU
Columbia
Gtown
Mt. Sinai
Northwestern
SUNY Downstate
Tufts
Michigan
Pittsburgh
Wayne State
Cornell
Western MI
Cincinnati
Jefferson
Miami
Rochester

Edit: MD-wise was thinking to add Drexel, Albany, Temple, Hackensack, WashU (since mcat is high)
