Hello!

I made one of these posts before I applied, but after seeing everyone else post their stats, I feel really terrible about my application.

I have a 3.83 gpa, 3.77 science gpa, and lots of extracurriculars during college, like pre-vet club, chemistry club, and presidency of my sorority. I have worked as a student mentor at my college, as well. I have 760 logged hours of microbiology research.

However, I have abysmal experience hours. I have currently around 2k+ hours of clinical small animal experience, but that’s about it. I have worked very sparingly with a large animal and exotic vet (<10 hours). I have owned several reptiles and I listed that as personal pets. My low experience is mostly due to the fact that I am a financially underprivileged full time student from Arkansas, where there aren’t many opportunities unless you drive very far away. Consistent farm or exotic work is hard to come by, unless you already have a connection.

I feel like I had a pretty strong personal statement and my LORs were from a professor, my research mentor, and the veterinarian I have worked under for the last year.

Is there any chance I’ll get into one of my schools? I applied to tOSU, LSU, and Mizzou.

I’d say by no means 2k+ hours is abysmal and you have good GPAs. OSU is known for wanting diverse hours tho so you may be unlucky there. Not familiar with other schools but your GPAs and #of hours definitely give you a decent chance

Thank you for the response! I’m the only person I know in my personal life who is applying this cycle and I’ve seen lots of statistics from other applicants that have been very impressive. I’m really not sure what qualifies as “good statistics” beyond what I’ve seen here on the Student Doctor Network, so this helps me to better put that into perspective.
