Date of submission: early June 2022
Overall GPA: 3.3
Science GPA: 3.1
Bio-Chem-Physics GPA: 3.2
DAT score (include AA and all sections): 24AA, 24TS, 24BIO, 24GC, 24OC, 27QR, 22RC, 23PAT
State of Residence: WA

Undergrad Attended: small niche school in CA
Major: Biology
Minority? No
Reapplicant? Yes (applied senior year undergrad in 2014)
Nontrad? Yes, active duty

Shadowing Experience: 160 hours GP, 30 hours HPSP AEGD residents
Volunteering Experience: 70 hours medical mission trip, 80 hours tutoring, 30 hours veteran outreach
Employment: active duty 2018 to present
Research: 1 quarter of research based course in undergrad (not sure if this counts?). No pub, 1 presentation.
Other Extracurriculars: huge promoter of physical and mental fitness, various leadership roles in military.
Relevant Honors or Awards: none related to education. Handful from military.
LOR type and strength: one biology professor and/or committee, one dentist, one military mentor/supervisor. All strong.
Misc Info/Things not stated elsewhere/Red Flags: huge gap between graduating undergrad in 2015 to 2018 when I enlisted. I was an international student back then and enrolling in master's or post-bacc would've put too much financial toll on my family on top of my undergrad loans so I decided to sign my contract with the army in 2016 to get naturalized. Background check took almost three years, putting me in a sticky situation in the meantime. 2015-2016, I took classes at UCLA Extension and organized a free tutoring program within church community. Other than that, not much productivity due to citizenship status until 2018.
School list: not in particular order after Columbia.
1. UW (top choice)
2. UCLA (family lives in LA)
3. UCSF
4. Columbia
Stony Brook
UMich
USC
OHSU
UNLV
TAMU
UTSD
UTHSCSA
MWU-A
MWU-I
ASDOH
MOSDOH
CASE
NYU
Roseman
Temple
ULou
UPitt
Western

Final note: I will be applying for HPSP so potentially tuition won't be a factor. Thanks for reading my post and any input/advices are welcomed.

take off the texas schools...

Because they're IS heavy? I only included them thinking they would appreciate the military background.
they are extremely IS heavy, and otherwise want a strong connection to the state
because of the cheap tuition, the OOS application/acceptance pool generally has huge stats...
sorry, didn't mean to denigrate your awesome DAT score- i meant that the OOS matriculants generally have high dats AND dats...

Thank you, and I see what you're saying. Are there other schools I should add to my list?

shoot
high gpa AND high dat

i wouldn't recommend adding to your list (maybe UOP since they love high dats)
you are probably better off trimming your list, the ones that don't make much sense in my opinion are louisville and pitt

Yes, thank you for serving our nation!

Among the HPSP AEGD residents, where did they attend school initially? Have they pitched their schools to you? Are there any schools that those who oversee HPSP dental students suggest? That should help somewhat with narrowing the list. Do some reading on how dental schools are working with military veteran patients or their local VA hospitals. Not that I'm trying to shoehorn you to a certain constituency, but I'm sure that recognizing the values of military service as a cultural competency will be very important.

I am guessing you have looked up your situation being active duty and getting HPSP vs the GI Bill, so I'll leave that to the recruiter and the experts.

I met residents from USC, Oklahoma, Creighton, Colorado, and UNC so kinda all over the place. I'm applying for HPSP for private schools I want to attend that don't offer full Yellow Ribbon coverage but otherwise I'll use my GI Bill.

Other than talking to residents and their attendees, where do you suggest getting info on what schools recognize military experience?

Other than flat out asking the schools, there are a few news articles or school news articles that highlight health to military veterans and families that I found on a search. You'll also find many faculty that may also do service at a VA facility.
