Welcome to the forums.

What's your state of residence? Where did you spend most of your childhood?

Worried no gap year will cook me
What do you mean by this? Yes, having a gap year is helpful but not deterministic of success in any case.

It may help knowing what your non-profit hours consisted of.

How much of your shadowing experience is related to your research experience?

I'm missing your personal context and journey to medicine. Medical school admissions doesn't involve accountants who only want to know your hours and metrics without knowing who you are and what experiences define your purpose.

My state of residence is NJ

What I mean by the gap year is that my hours aren't in the thousands like some applicants might have. I'm worried that I might be at a disadvantage because of this.

I initially started off as a volunteer for the organization where I attended events and helped create meals and toiletry kits. I then became an intern for the non-profit where I organized events (while still volunteering of course). As of recently, I have joined the non-profit board as the youngest member.

Only around 20 hrs of shadowing are related to my spine research. Everything else is outside of research (i.e. different attendings than any I conducted research with).

This last point would require me to simply copy/paste my personal statement. Essentially, my journey to medicine began with my own experience as a patient. As a kid I had a connective tissue disorder and had to see multiple specialists a month at times. Seeing the comfort these physcians brought to me and my family, at one of our hardest times, was what made me realize that this is what I want to do with my life — to give others that same comfort. Of course there are a million other anectodes that I can talk about to reinforce this commitment to medicine, but that was essentially the main aha moment.

What are you putting down for Other Impactful Experiences?
