Hi,

This is a pretty detailed WAMC post for this upcoming cycle. I am an ORM F with mid to high stats and good EC’s with a well-rounded story on significant family with chronic disease and how that led me to have a specific interest in disease management and underserved communities. I am not sure how many reach schools to apply to since I know my stats aren’t to par of T30 schools. I am also not sure if my non-clinical volunteering hours are too low.

  • Year in school: Graduated in 2024 (1 Year Early) at a T30; Finished 1 Gap Year

With only 20 hours of non clinical volunteering your chances for interviews are limited at top tier schools. Some schools screen at 150 hours so you should accumulate 130+ hours at Domestic Violence Shelter, homeless shelter, food bank, etc. before you submit your application. Loyola and Rush are looking for applicants with many hundreds of hours of non clinical volunteering. I suggest these schools with your stats:
Medical College Georgia
Mercer
Emory
NOVA MD
USF Morsani
Wake Forest
Virginia Commonwealth
Eastern Virginia
Methodist (when it opens)
Belmont
Alice Walton
TCU
Rosalind Franklin
U Illinois
Iowa
Medical College Wisconsin
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
George Washington
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
Geisinger
Hackensack
New York Medical College
Albany
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Roseman
UMass
Tufts

If I took another gap year to acrue another 200-300 hours at the DV shelter, what should my list be?

The same but your chances for interviews would be much higher. You could also add schools such as USF Morsani, Tulane, St. Louis, Georgetown, Hofstra, Miami. More clinical volunteering hours would also be helpful.
