Hello everybody! I'd love some help on my school list. Currently I have over 50 schools on my list and don't have nearly enough time to write that many secondaries, so I'm trying to cut it down to ~35! I'm also aware my list is top-heavy so I'd like to fix that too.

Stats (GPA + MCAT):
  • cGPA: 3.89, sGPA: 3.87
  • MCAT (first attempt): 519 (130, 129, 130, 130)
Background (state, ethnicity, undergrad):
  • State of Residence: Arizona, very strong ties to California
  • Ethnicity: Bengali (Bangladesh)
  • Undergraduate Institution: Arizona State University
  • Cis Male, ORM, US Citizen, 20yo
  • Traditional Applicant
    • Graduated in 3 years + currently in gap year
Extracurriculars (clinical, research, shadowing, volunteering, etc):
  • Clinical Experience (1430 hours, 2000+ projected):
    • 880 hours as a PCT at a trauma ICU
      • I was assigned to 6-beds on a typical day taking care of patients post-surgery primarily with general PCT-duties
    • 400 hours volunteering at local hospital
      • I typically volunteered at the orthopedic center and sometimes the NICU, moving patients between rooms, distributing supplies like food and water, and helping nurses with day-to-day tasks
    • 150 hours (2000+ projected) as a hemodialysis technician at a dialysis clinic
      • currently most of my duties consist of training since I started this job last month but I've recently began handling patients and hooking them up to dialysis machines and doing general PCT things as well
  • Research Experience (490 hours, 900+ projected)):
    • 130 hours in an environmental microbiology lab focused on monitoring the flow path of microbes such as MS2 and E. coli through lake water in the campus area
    • 360 hours in a neurobiology lab focused on tracking honey bee mechanisms for odor detection --> also helped create an EAG apparatus to standardize the detection of different odors and explosives through the antennae
    • 0 hours (900+ projected) at a Mayo Clinic neurobiology lab focused on headache/migraine treatments (starting this upcoming Tuesday)
    • No publications, posters, or presentations 🙁
  • Shadowing Experience:
    • 56 hours in internal medicine and geriatric clinics (48 projected)
  • Leadership Experience:
    • 160 hours as the US/BD representative secretary in the Bangladesh Students' Association club at my school
      • the position was focused on bridging the gap between American-born and Bangladesh-born (international students) Bengalis in the community
  • Non-Clinical Volunteering (2150 hours, 400+ projected):
    • 1500 hours (300+ projected) at an organization focused on using theater-based approaches to raising money for underserved communities
      • participated in numerous high-budget plays throughout the West Coast that have raised thousands in funds
      • would cook food from scratch for the communities we distributed food to so they could have access to their cultural food
    • 350 hours (100+ projected) at a Bengali-run organization focused on hosting cultural programs in Arizona.
      • I've hosted/em-cee'd programs such as "International Mother Language Day" where I've introduced 40+ cultures in their own languages, and helped create booths and games for many of them as well
    • 300 hours at an organization engaged in initiatives focused on supporting marginalized communities like domestic workers and special needs individuals
      • assisted in creating health education programs and organized workshops that promoted rights awareness
  • Artistic Endeavors:
    • 3000+ hours (300+ projected) in piano and art
      • self taught piano and accelerated until I eventually placed top 50 nationally at a Yamaha competition
      • have performed at school events, the pediatric and ortho units of a couple local hospitals, and at volunteering settings that I mentioned above
      • have drawn culturally representing Bangladeshi identity and working-class life, which have been commissioned by a couple of the organizations listed above for their programs and initiatives
  • LORs:
    • 2 science professors, 1 physician (MD), 2 from my volunteering activities
      • I expect 2-3 of these will be fairly strong

Some of the state public schools on your list admit few non residents (New Mexico and UC Davis only ~ 2 per year and UC Riverside none}. I suggest these schools from your list:

Welcome to the forums.

Have you connected with student officers of SAMSA chapters at the schools on your list? Are you connected with BMANA?

just curious - what does connecting with the student officers entail exactly? is it to learn more about their experience in their school?

I haven't heard of these before unfortuately, so I'll definitely look into it. What benefits would it have for my application though at this point?
