What are the nature and hours of your current 330 hours of clinical volunteering and current 230 hours of non clinical volunteering ?

Please follow the template and provide details. The quality of responses you get depend largely on how much you share.

What I can say right off the bat is your MCAT 510 is not going to be enough for many of the schools on your list. You don't mention your major so your 3.9 could come from a less-rigorous major.

You need to clarify your non-clinical volunteering experience, purpose as a physician, and circumstances in your background as FGLI. There's nothing to quote in your profile that is identifiable. Where in NY did you grow up? What advice have you gotten from your prehealth advisors?

Hi! Sorry about that -- I haven't really been on SDN before so all this is new to me. My major is Biology. Yes, unfortunately my MCAT score isn't great and even though I'm within the 10-95th percentile range for most schools, I realize my chances are extremely low.
Non clinical volunteering: Soup kitchens (cooking, prepping, serving food)
Purpose: Reducing stigma around medicine especially for underserved populations
I'm from the city. I haven't gotten too much advice from my prehealth advisors.

Clinical volunteer - child life at a hospital (providing play for inpatients)
Nonclinical - Soup kitchens (cooking, prepping, serving food)

You have several state public schools on your list that admit few non residents with a MCAT of 510 and no connection to the state. Some of your other schools are not realistic with your MCAT of 510. I suggest these schools with your stats:
All 4 SUNYs
Albany
Vermont
Quinnipiac
New York Medical College
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
Geisinger
George Washington
Virginia Commonwealth
Eastern Virginia
Wake Forest
NOVA MD
Belmont
TCU
Creighton
Rosalind Franklin
Medical College Wisconsin
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
Loma Linda (if you fit their mission)
Ponce (St. Louis)
Alice Walton (when it opens)
Roseman (when it opens)

Thanks for your help and the list!! I'll look into those schools.
Could you point out which of those public schools fall under this category that you've mentioned?

Colorado
Maryland
Loyola and Rush are looking for applicants with far more clinical and non clinical hours than you have.

Thanks! How do you know how many volunteering hours schools like Loyola and Rush want? Do they post it somewhere?

    • If anyone has any thoughts on this med school in particular, that'd be great. A bit hesitant because of their grading system

Thanks in advance!
Here is a more reasonable list. Don't throw money away applying ot dream schools...they don't need the donations. Take your SO out to dinner instead.

I suggest:
Creighton
Drexel
Georgetown
GWU
Jefferson
Loma Linda (only if you are SDA or a very devout Christian)
MCW
NEOMED
Netter
Loyola
Nova MD
Oakland-B
Rosy Franklin
EVMS
SLU
Albany
Rush
Temple
Tulane
TCU
VCU
U CO
U VM
Uniformed Services University/Hebert (just be aware of the military service commitment)
Wayne State
Wake Forest
WVU
ALL SUNYs

Any DO program. Include UNECOM. I can't recommend LMU, SOMA, RVU, BCOM, ICOM and LUCOM, for different reasons. Avoid those new schools that haven't graduated a class yet, if at all possible.

Thanks so much!! I wasn't strongly considering DO but some people are telling me I should take my chances there instead so I am considering it a bit more now.

Do you know anything about the Nova-MD school? I've heard some bad things but I think it might be the DO school.
