Hello!

I am a nontraditional applicant and just got my MCAT score back so I’m hoping for help with a school list, especially for MD schools as I have the FAP and feel like I may as well apply. I have 3 kids under 4 and my husband is a military officer - he is almost done with his service commitment so he will be getting out in a year or so.
  • 10 Year old BA in Geosciences GPA: 3.0 (took all premed prereqs and did not apply or take MCAT)
  • Undergraduate institution or category: Top 20 Liberal Arts
  • Post Bacc - 4.0 (retook biology and biochem for MCAT, anatomy/physiology, micro, chem, 35 credits total so far)
  • MCAT: 509 127/127/127/128
  • AMCAS/AACOMAS: 3.29cGPA/3.33sGPA, TMDSAS 3.26cGPA/3.31sGPA
  • State of residence: TX (through military husband, where we currently live), strong ties to MD/VA (where I grew up, we are moving back this summer) and NC (where I did Teach for America/my mom lives)
  • Ethnicity and/or race: Black/white
  • FAP Recipient, grew up under the poverty line in a rural community, strongly interested in primary care/OB
  • Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer)
    1. 150 Hours Family Medicine as a medical assistant (volunteer)
  • Research Experience
    1. 500ish hours undergraduate - archaeology lab, co-author on a paper/presented a poster at annual meeting
    2. 400ish hours volcanology research
  • Shadowing experience and specialties represented
    1. 50 hours military medicine
    2. 50 hours family medicine
    3. Not shadowing, but I do have ~150 hours of birth photography experience, where I was directly observing the birth process
  • Non-clinical volunteering
    1. Bereavement photographer - for families who lost children - 50 hours
    2. Family Readiness leader - 200 hours
  • Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)
    1. Teach for America - high school science - 2 years
    2. Business owner - birth/newborn/family photographer, 3 years
    3. 2 sport college athlete
  • Relevant honors or awards
    1. Military spouse leadership award
I know that my application is light on clinical experience. I have three young children who I am the primary caregiver for, so I am getting it where I can. If I have to re-apply, I will prioritize this. I have the FAP and would love to know where to focus my efforts for MD schools. I plan to apply with TMDSAS as well.

For DO schools, my list is (trying to keep these to a reasonable number unless I need to raise this, because $$$)
UIWCOM
SHSUCOM
ATSU SOMA
PCOM
OSU
OUHSOM
MSU
CUSOM
AZUCOM
RVUCOM
BCOM

Thank you so much for any help!!

ETA Cycle Results for those looking later

Ended up with a very successful cycle, 10 interviews (8 attended) and 7 (4MD (3 TX prematch, 1 OOS) /3DO (2 TX prematch)) acceptances including to an T20, where I’ll be going.
