I know its long and I am trying to get rid of a few schools from my list. Are there any schools you think I should remove? Or are there any that are OOS unfriendly?

Can you tell me how you drew up your list? What is your purpose as a physician? It's not obvious from your activities.
I used MSAR to make my list, I made sure my MCAT was above the 25th percentile for schools that I considered targets. I also ruled out schools that seemed to have in state bias and made sure I met the prereqs as well.

Honestly, my activities are all over the place. I don't have much time during the school year due to practices and games, so I did what I found interesting/exciting during my time off. I've done research programs and worked as an EMT.

My purpose as a physician would be effective communication and human interaction. I want to be a pediatrician to make a positive impact on the well-being of kids and their families. I'm still working on my personal statement but its going to be about my struggles with injuries in sports and understanding healthcare as a child.

Being a D1 athlete is going to be a big part of my application because I've been in sports for over a decade. I spend about 20-30 hours per week dedicated to my sport.

First, what you have written is not a purpose. Read

Second, many professionals positively impact the wellness of children and their families, including audiologists, speech-language pathologists, physical and occupational therapists, podiatrists, dentists, pharmacists, optometrists, nurses... it doesn't point to your purpose as a future physician.

Third, all medical schools should prepare you well for a career in pediatrics. You shouldn't be applying to all of them. I agree, you should be fine with your in-state programs and some regional choices, so I'm not sure why you are shooting for programs that might be more out of reach. I'm unsure of your public midwest medical schools or South Carolina-Greenville... Have you visited those schools or talked with admissions recruiters? Students current and past?

Thanks for the advice! I'll get rid of some of the reaches and apply mostly regionally. And yes, I have a couple of friends in those public medical schools like South Carolina-Greenville and they love them which is why I've been interested in applying as well.

I'll look into finding my purpose too! I'm not applying until next year so I haven't really just sat down and thought about my purpose/motivation for medicine. I'll start doing that right now!

Thank you again for helping out 🙂

Look at the out-of-state tuition for those state schools outside of your home state. Some use OOS medical students as cash cows. If your only offer were one of those schools, would you have second thoughts about accepting the offer and wonder if you should reapply with a stronger application the following year (we get these questions every spring which is why I ask.)

Carle has a pretty dedicated engineer ->physician tech pipeline- kinda medical materials/application science. Univ. Of Illinois has absolutely breathtaking OOS tuition.

I'm a math major so I meet all the prereqs for Carle and I really liked their engineering focus which is why I was gonna apply. But you're right, I think I'm going to remove University of Illinois from my list. Thanks!
