wamc and school list help (3.99/520)

hey everyone! I made a school list and wanted some input. working on my ps now, but would love any tips/guidance (especially for CA applicant!!).

• trad applicant, 3rd yr CA ORM
• 3.99 gpa, 520 mcat (pretty even split)
• Research: 1300hr, 1 poster/undergrad paper will be done by application
• Clinical volunteer: 200hr hospital volunteer (pretty basic stuff), 100hr hospice
• Tutoring: ochem tutor 100hrs
• Nonclinical volunteer: org that helps organize free dance events for the community (300hrs)
• Leadership: led dance event, 50 hr
• Art: collegiate dancer, 1000hr
• Shadowing: 100 hr, internal medicine and orthopedics

If we're looking just at measurables and metrics, you look good and can eliminate schools where you really won't get a chance because of yield protection. At the very least, why would you want to go to West Virginia or Virginia Tech? Cal Northside still has not been cleared for federal loans as far as I know, and you probably would do better than applying to CUSM.

I need to know if you are from the Inland Empire if you are serious about UC Riverside, or if you are from the Central Valley to be serious about UC Davis. It doesn't look like you would be a strong candidate for any of the UC PRIME programs...

Because you lack service orientation activities. Your non-clinical volunteering to organize free dance events is an extension of your own hobby as a dancer. You must have 150 hours of food distribution, shelter volunteer, job/tax preparation, legal support, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation to avoid getting screened out at most schools. Because you are looking at high-metrics brand schools, you should have 250 hours minimum to keep up with most of your peers in the pool.

I suspect most of your campus involvement is around your dancing. Did you minor/major in dance?

I majored in dance. not from IE/davis areas. Im just aiming to get into any med school (not for t20 or anything crazy) but worried about yield since im aware my ecs aren't that great for service schools

Have you attended any recruitment events or connected with mentoring organizations like AMSA, SNMA, APAMSA, etc.? At the very least, I am wondering why not Athletic Training or Physical Therapy. What advice have you gotten from your prehealth advisors?

im interested in surgery. why do you ask? is there going to be a problem getting into a school?

They said it was good to apply but didn’t give much advice on school list so I’m just looking for other opinions

Schools like Wayne, Albany and MCW are unlikely to consider you given your higher stats and lack of volunteering. You also do not have anything particularly notable to back up your app at the very competitive places like NYU and Johns Hopkins.

There’s a few months till apps open up. Start volunteering at a food bank, soup kitchen or homeless shelter and drop some of your other commitments to get a substantial number of hours by then.
