Hello everyone. I have a strange app in the sense that I went from a terrible applicant my freshman and sophomore year to doing everything I could junior and senior. Basically all of the ECs I have were started my Junior year of college so I only have about 1.5 years with all of them. I was thinking that might be a bit of a red flag. My GPA was also bad freshman and sophomore year and was also hurt by my pre-college classes I took in highschool (30 credits at a 3.55 average). I just graduated and am ready to apply this cycle with all the ECs i have listed below. I'm about to submit my application and just want some last minute feedback about this school list. Thank you all.
- cGPA - 3.77 sGPA - 3.81. Upwards trend starting at a 3.55 with the college courses i took in high school as well as a 3.55 freshman year, peaking senior year with a 4.0 --- 3.55/3.55/3.7/3.97/4.0
- 524 MCAT -- 132/130/131/131
- PA resident
- White Male
- Large state school
- Clinical - 1000 total - 700 hours as a nursing aid at a nursing home. 300 hours as an ICU volunteer
- Research experience - 800 hours doing basic science research. 1 pub as 6th author, 1 poster.
- Shadowing - 100 hours total. 25 gastro, 15 pediatric gastro, 20 anesthesia, 20 internal medicine, 20 trauma surg
- Non-clinical - 500 hours at a soup kitchen serving homeless
- Other ECs - MMA club, Chess club (2250 elo), TAed 4 semesters total for multiple classes - Ochem 1 and 2, human phys, and nursing chem (kind of gen chem and ochem all at once)
- Relevant honors - Nothing
- I worked teaching children how to sail for 6 years, and tutored children at an inner city school when i was in highschool. Should I include either of these in my app? I'm thinking of going into pediatrics and was wondering if taking this angle looks good when applying.
The school list might be a bit top heavy for my GPA, but these are all recommended by admit.org. I'm thinking of applying to a TON of schools since my app is weird. I am under the impression that casting a wide net is extra important in my case.
