Date of submission: Not submitted yet (estimated mid October)
Overall GPA: 3.35
Science GPA: 3.15
Bio-Chem-Physics GPA: 3.19
DAT score: AA 24/PA 21/QR 24/RC 22/B 25/GC 28/OC 22/TS 24
State of Residence: CA

Undergrad Attended: UCLA
Major: Psychobiology
Minor: Cognitive Science
Minority? No
Reapplicant? No
Nontrad? No

Shadowing Experience: 400 hours in a dental office shadowing and assisting general dentistry and orthodontics
Volunteering Experience:
50 Hours volunteering/dental assisting in a developing country (assisting mainly with oral surgery)
50 hours locally
Employment: No Paid Employment
Research: N/A
Other Extracurriculars: Fraternity EVP (philanthropy event planning but probably not too good of an idea to talk about)

Honors or Awards: None in college except Dean’s List before my GPA started tanking. I do have an upward trend in my senior year though (GPA: 3.52)

LOR type and strength:
1 Physics Professor: Strong
1 Psychobio Professor: Strong
1 Cog Sci Professor (Department Chair): Unknown but probably medium
1 Dentist: Strong
1 Volunteer Coordinator: Very Strong

I will put the first four on my AADSAS app even though I know the last one will be the strongest.

I went to high school in Houston, TX, but do not qualify as a resident of TX. Should I still apply?
This is my tentative list. It is long because I know I am applying super late, but what could be my chances of getting some interviews? And school suggestions to drop or add? (I’m not really a fan of the midwest though)

School list:
USC
Boston
Tufts
NYU
UCLA
UCSF
UOP
Temple
Nova Southeastern
AT Still Arizona
Midwestern - Arizona
Oregon
Nevada, Las Vegas
Rutgers
UTexas San Antonio
UTexas at Houston
Texas A&M
U Washington
Western

I know my GPA isn’t great and my extracurriculars and research are almost nonexistent, but I think a good amount of hands-on experience. I know that working this year and applying in June next summer would be a lot better for me, but I still want to give this cycle a shot. Thanks for reading this far SDN community!

likely too late and too low gpa for UCLA and UCSF and the texas schools, sorry

You’re honestly better off making yourself a stronger applicant however you can this upcoming year and just applying early. You’ll be wasting a lot money knowing that you weren’t able to get interviews because you applied late.

Remember, a lot of applicants have submitted their applications prior to taking the DAT, so this means whatever applicants are submitting even after all those applicants that submitted early are in for a long wait.

Majority of the dental schools encouraged applicants to submit even with no DAT, so you can see there is a bit of a dilemma with what’s going on.
