how did you come up with this list?

Pre dental advisor came up with it after looking at my stats, I am wondering if they were on target or not.
IMO, it is a horrible list
you should do your own research and come up with your own list
how come UU is not on this list?

HAHA fair enough, I looked at all the schools on the list and it looks like they should match my stats fairly well. Why do you think it's horrible? And UU is pretty dei heavy, for someone with my demographics the average dat is around a 23 with an average gpa of about 3.6ish, just not my cup of tea in general even thought the instate would be nice.

it's horrible because it is distributed all over the US, contains almost exclusively private schools, and is way too long
pretty much a shotgun approach...

you get interview invites and acceptances through mission fit
"match my statistics fairly well" is not mission fit..

I would apply to more state schools but unfortunately according to the ADA stats that are put out every year there are only 1-2 seats for students applying from my state. The schools on my list are the ones with the more preferable programs for what I am looking for even though they are not all in one side of the country. Obviously a mission fit is what appeals to programs in the application but this thread is about statistics. The schools on my list are all mission fits. Hence the reason why UU is not on the list.

Do you have any advice on what my chances are or are you just going to dwell on the list?

the list is important to your chances
if you have a better list, it will improve your chances a ton...

The list is a rough draft, I am definitely not going to apply to all of them but as of now they are my top choices.

i am not "dwelling" on your list
choose better public and privates and get back to us
there are only 2-4 schools on your maybe list that are good to add, IMO

your chances at these three schools are extremely low:
Louisville
Kentucky
VCU

your chances at these schools are pretty low:
Touro
Case Western
LECOM
New England

Haha okay what exactly qualifies as "better"? I am not going to apply to schools with average stats above my own even though we might be a good "mission fit"

Can you explain your reasoning for why my chances are low?

schools have a very limited number of interviews and acceptances to give out
they need to focus on people who will more likely attend if accepted
schools that are further away from utah are less likely to give you much consideration (outside of privates that have large class sizes like NYU BU and Tufts)

you need to have a better list- meaning a broad range of schools, some reaches, mostly in-range, and a few safeties

Sounds good thanks for the tips!

Does the advisor have experience with students getting into these schools? How similar are you to these students (grades, activities, dental experience)?

Have you lived in any of the cities associated with the dental schools on your list? How much do you know about the needs of each community's underserved population? If you go to dental school, most of your four years will be spent caring for patients in each locality.

Would you go to each school on your list if it were the only one to extend you an offer? It's one thing to say you'd be happy getting accepted to one school; it's different when you have to like in Pikeville for four years. Or Erie for two.

The DSE has a filter for schools by science GPA. Let that help you pare down your list.

All the schools on the list except maybe New England he has gotten students into every year, he is a well seasoned advisor which is why I have a decent amount of trust in what he says.

I have lived in NY, CA, and UT but never the exact same city as the dental school. I am pretty close to Roseman right now. And for UNLV (my top choice), A.T. Still, Louisville, UOP, and LECOM I am pretty familiar with their underserved population as well as their community outreach from research and talking with their admissions team.

For all the schools on my first list I would be stoked to go to, they have solid programs in their own ways and I woudn't turn down an acceptance. For the schools in the maybe list such as pikeville I have no idea, hence why the maybe haha. They are obviously brand new so I feel like there isn't very much info about them at all, I would probably be hesitant to attend.

Is science GPA a good metric to use alone for pruning down my list?

Thank you!
