WAMC - Be honest and help me find realistic schools

All numbers will be as of AMCAS opening, and I've indicated ongoing activities that I'll be continuing during gap year as I apply

Stats:
  • TX resident, ORM (white male), 23 y/o in gap year
  • 520 MCAT (128/132/130/130)
  • 3.88 gpa, 3.73 sGPA
Volunteering:
  • Free clinic - 600ish clinical hours as an EMT working with mostly underserved populations
  • Food banks - 100 hours
  • Natural disaster relief - 50 hours - removing debris and mucking out homes impacted by various hurricanes in TX and LA
  • Youth group leader - 50 hours
  • Elementary school volunteer - 30 hours
Paid Experience:
  • Dental Hygiene Assistant - 640 hours - not sure if I should consider this clinical or not (would love input), mostly did patient intake for a dental office during peak COVID, did covid questionnaire, vitals, temps, etc.
Shadowing:
  • 50ish hours shadowing various MDs/DOs at the clinic I volunteer at
  • 10 hours shadowing ortho surgeon watching spinal fusions
Misc.:
  • Chuch Choir Pianist/Congregation Accompanist - 450+hours - I play the piano and work with my church choir weekly
  • Cadaver Lab TA - 170 hours during senior year of undergrad, was a TA for a cadaver lab class of cadavers I dissected over the previous summer
SCHOOL LIST: would love input here, will probably trim this down 5 schools or so

  • Rochester
  • UTSW
  • USF

  • Iowa
  • Toledo
  • Wayne State

Prob will trim a couple of Creighton/STL/Rochester bc I don't have a ton of non-clinical service, but would love input on schools to add/remove/consider

Dental hygiene assistant: It sounds administrative, but I think it could be clinical depending on what you say you did (not very clear to me based on what has been described). However, you are applying for medical school so is there any other clinical experience where you work in a more traditional hospital or clinical environment. Basically what is different between this work and your free clinic work?

Why so many OOS schools?
