Hi everyone, I'm a female, re-applicant looking to apply this spring 2015 for entry to fall 2016 class. OH resident.

I graduated from a big state university, with a HealthSci major and Spanish minor
Undergraduate GPA ~3.61, BCPM 3.4

I've never had C's or anything, just a lot of B's. Ive since taken several courses at a local university and bumped up my GPA closer to ~3.65/3.7 and BCPM to a 3.45/3.5 range (roughly)

My first MCAT was pretty poor, a 29 (7/11/11), retook this Jan 15 and got a 34 (12/10/12)

Extracurriculars: - from old application
50 hours restaurant hostess
40 Hours research/published poster & abstract
65 hours St. Jude Exec Board Up 'Til Dawn Volunteer
60 Hours Hospital ER volunteer
50 hours Organization Committee volunteer (manage university clubs, intramurals, etc)
60 Hours equestrian club team
35 hours shadowing MD's I did research with

New EC to add
60-100 hours Ronald McDonald House Volunteer (ongoing)
50-100 hours Hospital ER volunteer (ongoing)
50-75 hours Horse Therapy volunteer (ongoing)
45 hours shadowing (PCP +DO)
45-60 hours research (new MD, new topic, ongoing)

Also, I feel like I should add I ride like 10 hours a week, so it takes up a fair chunk of my time/I compete in regional and national level shows...

My last application cycle was LATE, but hopefully if I apply early, what are my chances at Ohio schools, and maybe some mid-low tier private schools? (Wake, Loyola, Tulane)

Apply to all the Ohio schools (though Case will be a reach). Other schools worth considering are Oakland Beaumont, Western Michigan, Loyola, Rush, Rosalind Franklin, St. Louis, Creighton, Penn State, Commonwealth (PA), Drexel, Temple, Jefferson, Hofstra, New York Medical College, Albany, Wake Forest, Tulane, GW, Georgetown and any new private MD schools that open up in 2016. Your best chances are the Ohio state schools. You would be fine for any DO school.

With an upward science grade trend in your postbac work and far less "vanilla" ECs than before, along with a lovely MCAT retake score, you are far better positioned for a successful application cycle.

Be sure your application gives a sense of the success rate of your equestrian competitions.

Thanks for the help! Unfortunately my biggest competition is after I submit my primary but I can always bring it up in interviews!

Any other helpful advice @Goro or @gyngyn ? You guys seem super helpful!

Faha beat me to it, but I would also add all new MD schools, like Va Tech, FAU, and FIU.

Also, do your homework and see if any of the following schools take the most recent or best score: USC, BU, MCW, Creighton, IU, Wayne State, Einstein, Rochester, and maybe Dartmouth.

Thanks for the advice, I will revise my school list accordingly. I really hope adcoms see the improvement Ive been hustling for

When did you apply for your first app. cycle?
Did you get any interviews?

My first app cycle I took the July MCAT (bad idea) scores back ~Aug 8th, not verified by AMCAS until...September 8thish. Clearly that was a bad idea, because it was so late. I was kind of naive

I had 5 interviews, 3 OOS (close ties) 2 deferred, 1 rejection (MCAT), 2 IS both deferred, one waitlist. I might have been able to get in if I applied earlier, who knows? But I'm glad I took a year to reassess and improve my MCAT, I feel more confident now.
