Hi everyone, I just wanted to know my chances of getting into medical school. I am looking at a mix of DO schools and state schools. The DO schools I am looking at are A.T. Still University, Midwestern University, Touro University. The only MD school i am considering is University of Arizona because I did my undergrad there. I would like to know my chances for the schools listed as well as get an idea of other schools I can apply to. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Your MCAT of 501 is not competitive for AZCOM, CCOM or the Touros. These are schools where you could receive interviews with your current stats:
ATSU-SOMA
VCOM (all 4 schools)
ACOM
NYIT-AR
ARCOM
WCU-COM
UIWSOM
MU-COM
WVSOM
UP-KYCOM
LUCOM
LMU-DCOM
LECOM (all schools)
PCOM Georgia and South Georgia
Noorda-COM
If your new MCAT score is 507 or higher you could add more schools.
Your clinical exposure hours are low. You should accumulate another 20 hours of physician shadowing and 100+ hours of clinical volunteering with patient contact before you submit your application.

I am planning on completing the clinical and EC’s during the gap year. Do you think I should still apply this cycle?

So basically... no community service other than 40 hours of teaching children about the environment?
I also currently tutor students with special needs, but yes, that is all. I was planning on adding to this section with my gap year. Do you think this would be a good idea?

Projected hours are considered exactly that-projected hours. ADCOMS know that life interferes and those hours might or might not get done. You only want to apply one time with the best possible application. So put off applying a year or two. Fill in the holes, build a competitive application and then apply when you are ready.

Not with your current low clinical hours. You could add another 20 hours of shadowing and 100+ hours of clinical volunteering in the next 4 months and apply in August/September (which is not late for DO schools).

Unless you want to be hired as a teacher with special education certification, I think you could be involved in more community service like food pantries or homeless advocacy (as examples).
