Did you network with any of the schools on your list? What do your prehealth advisors think? We don't have your actual application, and the information you have provided doesn't give me any insight about your purpose other than you want to address SDH/health disparities. Are you comfortably literate with Spanish or Latinx culture?

I did want to know if school/university operations were affected by the recent hurricanes for the Florida/Southeast schools. I don't know any of the other schools on your list to glean any mission fit, other than (the way you have arranged your data) your experience with underserved/marginalized communities (how many hours in service orientation??? That's not clear and could exclude you.). But there's no detail so it just feels like you're checking boxes to get admitted. Who knows about the quality of your secondary responses. 44 schools is a lot.

I would continue to be patient. Strong GPA's eventually grab attention with your in-state programs (it is Florida though). Are you currently in school in Florida or attending a T10 elsewhere? I presume you are near family so you aren't outside of Florida, right?

If it were me, I'd be impressed you would still pull a high GPA while taking care of family, but it may also signal to me, you want to stay close to home if things are not adequately resolved. You really wouldn't want to move out to California for medical school for example if things aren't settled so that you could apply out there, would you? If so, how did you indicate your interest before you started the process? Oh, we're back to the start of this post: did you network with any of the schools on your list?

In short, good numbers, but nothing has been disclosed here that would tell me you'd be a great person we should interview at the school.

Thank you! I will go back in and edit the response to be more thorough or post a new one. I didn’t really network with any of the schools., honestly didn’t know this was a thing really. My advisors thought my application looked good. My post was pretty bare bones but there are of course lots more detailed involved. I am well versed in Latinx culture and am fluent in Spanish because I grew up speaking it.

I am not in Florida. I graduated from a t10 this year and am working at the same institution in research.

I think schools may be a bit behind because of the hurricanes, but not terribly so. The caregiver issues have been resolved and I explained they were resolved in my disadvantaged essay.

It doesn't hurt to network before applying (like at this week's AAMC virtual fair), but often, you will get some subtle details about how the admissions team looks at applications, especially given that many are currently reviewing applications when you interact with them. There are other podcasts you can listen to that also reveal a little insight into what messages the admissions committees resonate with (at least based on previous cycles).

Again, this process is nerve-wracking, but there's nothing you can do but keep waiting. Look up schools where the student-run free clinics interact with the variety of patients you have experience with as an advocate. You should know which schools incorporate patient-advocate training as part of their longitudinal professional-formation curriculum and have highlighted this in your secondary schools. You may already know some graduates from your school who attend the medical schools you have listed who can keep encouraging you with "insider" information of life/culture as a student.

As an in-state applicant for Florida, I am hopeful. I have to do a little math, but I think there are about 1000? in-state seats among the 8 MD programs (so not including the DO seats), and there should be around 2000 applicants (if I take the in-state application number for Miller/Miami, 2022-2023). Not all the Florida applicants go in-state, so with your solid GPA/MCAT, I would hope one of those 8 schools at least reaches out to you. Your metrics will not hold you back from interviews to in-state programs.
