First time applying, I’m not sure what schools to apply to. I finished my AA at the same time as my hs diploma. I should be graduating at the end of this academic year. I’m interested in dvm & masters/dvm. I’m growing more interested in research, wanna check out food production, but I’m fine w small animal too. I have a record of eh performance in chem: C in chem 1, B in chem 2, C+ orgo 1. I haven’t taken orgo 1 lab & orgo 2 (+L).
Cumulative GPA: 3.56 (from both degrees)
Science GPA: 3.54 I think
Last 45: 3.82 or 3.84 (last 44 or 48)

Concerns:
- I haven’t taken many upper-level biology courses yet, Orgo II scares me
- I had that short-term (3 month) urgent care position that ended with me being let go while I was on an approved two-week leave. They said for “not picking up things as they hoped.” I’m not sure whether this could come up during the application process.
- Withdrew from 2 classes in early undergrad (tough time and health). I failed English during health complications. I plan to address this in my explanation statement, focusing on how I've developed for dealing with my illness.
- Should I bother with extracurriculars during my final year of uni? I want to make the most of my last year, but I know my courses will be more demanding. I’d also like to work because I need the money, but balancing 20 credits with the urgent care job was pretty hectic. I also enjoy having some free time.
- I don't think maturity is a major concern, but should I be considering this given my relatively nontraditional academic path?
- What should I focus on improving before/during the application cycle?
- My PS is about bridging two sides of myself that I used to think were opposites—the hands-on side and the analytical side—by learning to use technology as a tool and developing an interest in research and mentorship.
- I have a lot of high school experiences/leadership making up my app. However, I'm not sure how much those will be valued since I'll be applying as a college student.
- LORs: 1 veterinarian (I think it'll be decent), horse rescue coordinator (should be strong for leadership), and research professor (I expect this one to be strong for research/academics).
