Wanna know why anesthesiology??

Its midnight and I'm on saturday call for my required medicine sub-i, probably will get no more than a couple hours of sleep if I'm lucky, then round tomorrow all morning, just to do the same all next week. This past week I've stayed until 6pm to7:30 pm nightly when not on call and the post call interns have stayed at least until 3 pm each time working on perfecting their notes (that nobody actually seems to read). I'm on call again later this week, and will probably have to stay late like they do as well.

And what am I doing all night?? Listening to people argue about whether or not they should change an order from IV ativan to Po....or should we order a just a chem7 or get the Ca,Mg,etc too....or reglan prn vs zofran prn....AHHHHHH!!!!!!! Lets just make a decision and move on with life...seriously this should all take about 10 seconds, not 10 minutes on each subject.

I'm a bit scared about this being my entire existence next year as an intern...but unlike the other whining sub-i's who are going into medicine, I see a light at the end of the tunnel. Calls that end at a certain hour, not being the primary service, not following up with unpleasent consultants, making fast informed decisions, and most importantly: no rounds (ok, except icu and maybe some pain services...).

I really didnt realize how painful this intern year thing is until now...sorry for being such a cry baby. 🙂

yea no S#@T, hence the reason medicine sucks...but not the only reason of course. damn i can't wait til i bypass that intern year and move on to the more important things in life like anesthesia. hopefully you don't lose as much weight as i did when i was on medicine. it's like i had marasmus or kwashikor for 4 wks.

Bah...just order all the tests (draw cultures and do a rectal too) and push IV ativan and then have the pt eat the PO stuff. She'll keep breathing if there ain't narcs on board. And if there are just toss on a cpap and leave your page number with the nurse. Better yet, just give her 5 of haldol and end the whole experience all together. It'll all be over soon. I disliked medicine wards in such a way that I cannot express my feelings in words.
