I'm about to enter my senior year in high school and I have set my eyes on UoP's pre-pharmacy programs.

I just emailed admissions and they said that although SAT 2s aren't required, but they are STRONGLY recommended for those applying to pre-pharm. The thing is, the two that they want are the two that I didn't take.

I'm hesitant on whether to take the SAT Chem/Math because of whether or not it'll affect my admission. I've started studying, but I only have a month left to suck up all the material, and I don't feel like that will be enough.

The UoP website said that they only use the subject scores for enrollment purposes after admission, but then I gathered information from another forum that they use the SAT Chem to place you in one of the 3 programs (2+3,3+3,4+3). I wouldn't really mind because if UoP really did base it off of GPA and SAT score as they said on their pamphlet I would qualify for all three, but I can't help but be skeptical of whether they will take SAT Chem into consideration...the tuition cost is quite scary and I wouldn't want a silly SAT Chem score to hinder my chances of getting into the 2+3 program.

So my question is...
Is it better to have no SAT Chem/Math score rather than have a mediocre/below average score? Or in other words, which one would strengthen my chances of getting into the program, the fact that I actually have a score to show, or the fact that I don't have a score for these two, but 3 scores (700,770,750) in other subjects?

I hope that made sense. Thank you!

Are you not very confident in those two subjects?

Which program they place you in based on your score would make sense. Without those two, I doubt you'd be placed into the 2+3 program, because there are plenty of other applicants who HAVE taken those, and probably did average on them. If you can show that you can at least get in the 700's for those two subject tests, then I believe you would be placed in 2+3. Without them, I wouldn't be surprised if you were placed into the 4+3 bachelors/pharm D program.

Thank you! Now that I think about, it seems pretty obvious. On their site, they made it seem optional, something that would only be a factor after you got in, oh well. Thanks again! Now I have to go back and study.

I took SAT II Math and Bio a few years ago and I was accepted. Didn't take SAT II Chem. Take the tests that you will do well on. The prep for SAT II's shouldn't take too long since the material is fairly recent/within a year or two.
Regardless of which program you get accepted into, the 4+3 is always an option and it's the best option. You'll want a bachelor's degree. And guess what? You can apply to other pharm schools if you want to because you never know how much flexibility you'll need down the road (i.e. significant other). PM me in April if you get in and are deciding between UOP's pre-pharm program vs. going to UCLA/USC/Cal/Ivy League. I remember it was a tough decision for me back then, and I imagine it will be for you.

Hey, I'm in the 2+3 program and currently in high school. I would recommend sat chem and IIC, and a decent gpa.

Good luck.
