What the title says. I looked but the search option on SDN didn't really pull up anything directly applicable to my situation.

Basically, I spend around 8+ months on the road each year (I'm a performer for children). I love what I'm doing right now but after about 2-3 more years of touring I would like to transition into healthcare and hopefully begin the process of applying to med school.

I have enough downtime in between performing that I could balance 1-2 classes easily. I am basically starting from scratch as well - as a journalism major I only took the bare minimum science classes that I needed in order to graduate - so I really would like to start working on completing those classes ASAP. Unfortunately, since I'm on the road for such long periods of time, I literally can't take classes at a physical college. Is it true that online classes are looked down upon by adcoms? Because if so... I guess I am stuck.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

( BTW, I guess I am definitely a non traditional applicant but I figured I might get a better response here - mods please move my thread if necessary! )

I would wait until you can take more than 1-2 classes. With being out of school for such an extended amount of time, AdComs will want to see that you can handle a rigorous science course road. As the wise
@Goro has stated, you should finish your traveling career before starting your academic work.

Would OP be able to just self study and take the MCAT? I believe some schools, ie. Medical college of South Carolina, do not require the prereq classes.

A) OP would have to be a resident of SC.
B) Even without pre-reqs, no med school is going to gamble on someone who hasn't given evidence that s/he can handle a med school curriculum. And no, acing the MCAT isn't evidence for that.
