...And I bought 100 shares of Citigroup. When I bought them, they were going for $4.65/share. Now they're $4.97/share.

I'm not going to sell them anytime soon, but now I keep logging into my brokerage account to watch my itty-bitty "portfolio" (If you can even call it that) go up. Woot!

Anyone ever take a gamble on the stock market before?

The recent movement in Citigroup has been incredible. And like you, I have also taken advantage of this movement, but with a much larger position. If you aren't looking to day trade C, I'd hold on to that position for a while, if not add more during the drops if you can afford it. The outlook looks very positive.

I wish I had gotten into Adeona Pharmaceuticals last year. When I first saw it, it had gone from 0.46 to 0.92. By the time I got the money together, it had fallen to 0.41 so I gave up hope on it. Now it's at 1.95. :bang:

Adeona is a development stage pharmaceutical company. Their most promising drugs are:

A. Zinthionein, used for Dry aged related macular degeneration
B. Trimesta, used for remitting multiple sclerosis (oral antiinflammatory immunomodulation agent)
C. Oral DNAJP1, used for rheumatoid arthritis, as a once daily epitope specific immunotherapy.

I'm too much of a candy***** I found out 😀

I still invest in some "safe" mutual funds, but that's about as deep as I'll go in the stock market anymore. I can't stomach it.

Daytrade C? No way! I don't have the stomach -- or money -- for that yet. Imma hold those babies for a verrrrry long time. Wish I could have bought more, but when you're being paid $20K plus per year, that's kind of hard. I plan to add to it in the future, though.

And I agree, the outlook on Citigroup is positive. But in all honesty, the major reason I bought it is that the US government showed with its actions that it would not allow Citi to fail.

I got burned big time before P school for being stupid.
DDSS, oops.

I bought a load of C when it was a little over a buck... sold at $3+ some months later. I think it was about year ago.

Good Stock.

my experience with stocks can be summed up with 2 encounters:

bought Citigroup for ~ $14 ish back in august of 2008, sold it after it reached $20 in sep 2008, luckily before it plummeting all the way down to $1 and whatever it costs now. (I invested around 3k so I believe I made like 500 profit)

I put all of that money right into apple (~$141) immediately, only to see it go all the way down to as low as $70 but I held on and sold it over the summer at around $165, came away with 600 profit.

Yeah so my experience in the stock market has been decent, although if one would have purchased AAPL and American Express at its nadir ($70 and $10 respectively) and sold it right now, damn... almost 4x the return

Anyone here invest based on results clinical trials and you're expectation that a drug will get approved or at least move on the next phase of trials? I always thought that would be a smart thing for a pharmacist to do, but now sure how effective that actually is.

Kinda. I bought MNTA (momenta) when the FDA turned down their generic enoxaparin application.. at below $5 in Nov of 2007. Then it eventually climbed up to $19+. So I sold it. Then I went back in at $13. It's hovering around $14 and $15 right now....but I'd think it will peak a bunch when the FDA finally approves generic enoxaparin.

I actually have bought a bunch of unknown pharma stocks. Time to buy is before the trial is published. Once you know what type of trial they're running, make an educated guess if it will succeed or not... buy low then hold until they publish the results. If the results are good, then the price will shoot up without a doubt. That's when you sell because it'll bottom out again until another good news comes out... you can ride this up and down... We actually have a buddy system where my buddies and I watch stocks..and we can't possibly watch it everyday but when we notice trends, we inform each other. It's worked out well.

Not really gambling... more like investing

I put 1/2 of my networth in these mutual funds since OCT 2009:

ASVIX (Small cap USA) 20%
DODFX (International large cap) 35%
FAIRX (Multicap core) 35%
TGLDX (Gold) 10%

So far I got an unrealized gain of $8000 in 6 months around 8%.. I add more positions as I get a paycheck every 2 weeks. Won't sell it until at least 5-10 years or until I am super old lol... Goal is to make it appreciate with a rate of 8-10% annualized for $100,000/year; I'd need at least about $1M+ networth for that..so that I don't have to work so much OT anymore lol...
