Does anyone have any opinions/insights into the Wash U program?
(i know they've got direct AP or CP paths, but I was thinking AP/CP)

I heard it's good for research etc, but they teach less, and, they residents work a TON of hours, as compared to other less bigname places.

It is worth going there just for the name then? i.e. in order to nab that dermpath fellowship?

I interviewed at but did not rank Wash U. It was a little too competitive for me. There seemed to be a good deal of research going on as well which is something I wasn't as interested in. The residents looked tired during my interview and didn't seem as happy as residents at other programs that I had interviewed at. One resident who was there when I interviewed came to our program for a heme fellowship. He acted like the hours were too long at Wash U.

Having said all of that, Wash U is a fantastic name in pathology. You will get excellent training and experiences. If you want to do academic pathology, Wash U would be a great place to go. However, I personally felt that I could get good training at other places and not have the long hours. So, take this for what it is: my opinion. Make your own judgement when you interview, see if you like the environment, etc and go from there.
