Washington D.C. opts out of CRNA supervision

I'm not sure the rationale behing this one. I guess simply chalk it up to politics. There is no shortage of MDs in DC that's for sure and they have plenty of CAAs doing the same job as CRNAs. What all of a sudden urban DC hospitals are gonna start letting CRNAs practice autonomously while they have CAAs there? Just politics. healthcare in this country is getting frightening.

In the letter Mayor Muriel Bowser wrote, "As required under federal regulation, I have consulted with the District of Columbia Board of Medicine and the Board of Nursing about issues related to access to and the quality of anesthesia services within the District. Based on this consultation and a review of the District's healthcare needs, I have determined that opting out of the federal physician supervision requirement for CRNAs is in the best interest of District residents and that opting out is consistent with District law."

Another question, why would the board of medicine be ok with this? Active sabotage is what it is.

The Governor (or in this case the mayor) is only required to consult with the board of medicine. S/he is not bound by their opinion. FYI, there have been one or two state medical boards that actually supported the opt out.
