How much can a new hire be expected to earn in DC? More specifically I would like to know about CVS. They keep telling me that it there is a high demand in Washington. Housing prices there are insane so I'd imagine they'd have to pay more than other areas.

I had a job offer in that area a couple years ago. It was for CVS. They offered around $60/HR for a floating position. I declined it and moved to an upstate NY city for about $55/hr and the money went so much farther. Half of my paycheck would've gone to rent in DC. It's not worth it. Plus, traffic is terrible.

CVS has fired good number of pharmacists in DC area recently, which explains the demand.
They also consider it a challenge area, which explains pressure from the management to perform and high DM/Rx Sup turnover.
They also hire new grads into PIC positions because those positions are not unionized.
Do you still care about possible 5%-10% higher salary? It is probably due to COLA anyway.

yes, these past few years i have seen many pharmacists come n go, along with supervisors. very high turnover rate. many cvs in this area are high volume stores.. DC alone has at least 20+ cvs pharmacies! in some parts of DC, u can literally "walk" from one store to another. the problem stores are problematic b/c of severe understaffing.. the district is full of "challenged" stores.. no one wants to be PIC, qs such new grads take the bait. someone has to do it. new grads n a lot of foreign pharmacists graduated god knows where.. i was telling this guy the pt shouldn't be on bupropion b/c the pt has history of seizure. the dude was "clueless." like im speaking a foreign language.
