I am a Washington resident, so hoping to get into WSU, but I want to apply to more schools. Classified under WSU’s ratings, I am tier II applicant as far as grades go. Originally, I was planning on applying to Kansas, Oregon State, and University of Minnesota. I know OSU doesn’t accept a lot of OOS candidates. Should I even bother applying there. I am talking to my advisor next week about it all, but would like other advice. I am applying with large animal, wildlife, and small animal clinic experience. I don’t want to waste money and apply to schools I don’t have chances at.

Thanks for any advice

WSU has tier ratings for their applicants? Wow, I've never heard of that.

I wrote you a post yesterday but my internet froze when trying to send it.

Anyhoo, Tier II still gets accepted! It's not just all Tier I so don't count yourself out! And the only way you don't have a shot is if you don't apply at all. So apply!

Typically there are 120+ IS apps with around 50-60 IS accepted, so WSU is still your best shot.

I'd also recommend trying OK-state. I know a few of my classmates were also accepted at OK-state. And some that were not accepted at WSU, but accepted at OK-state.

The only thing about OK-state is the GRE bio but that is no big deal. I also hear they don't take too many non-trads but that's just SDN scuttlebutt.

I'm a WA res and I applied at WSU, Oregon, OK-state and CSU. I was accepted to WSU and OK-state, waitlisted at Oregon. My stats are on the successful app thread. If you'd really really rather go to Oregon you should get residency because OOS from Washington doesn't get accepted too often - since we have our own state school 🙂

If you're at UW the pre-vet advisor there is crap. Just ask us here and we'll have more info for you!

LOL...now why doesn't that surprise me.

GO COUGS!!

We have non-trads at OKstate. I can't really compare numbers to other schools, but they certainly exist. We probably have a greater number of 25-32 year old non-trads, with fewer of the 33+ range, but I think we have a good span of ages. 🙂

The biology GRE is quite tolerable. You'd want to touch up on your botany though, especially if you're like me, and... are putting off taking it until the very last semester. 😉
