WashU for rep, NW for city. I would prefer NW.

If you want to be in Chicago area for residency, your family lives there, or you have a full ride, pick Northwestern.

For all other purposes, WashU.

just one other point to ponder. Chicago's nice, but only a few hours drive from St. Louis. NW med is pretty much on the gold coast in chicago...the small little student dorms were ~650/month

In St. Louis I share a nice big 3 bedroom apartment with two classmates, we pay $850/month...total. And you can get a residency in chicago just fine from washu. Good luck and congrats on the acceptances.

Where did you get a 3BR apartment in the CWE for $850/month?

Its technically a 2br with a "maidsroom" but it lives like a 3. I'll PM you.

I'm am not a neutral observer, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I don't think you can not go wrong with either of those choices in terms of your education. Spend some time thinking about where you want to spend four years of your life. Tuition at both are expensive-- the cost of your rent will be a rounding error when everything is said and done.

If you'd like to PM me any specific questions about NU I'd be glad to answer them.

i'm not in med school yet but having lived in st. louis before and grown up in washu(like there every weekend) don't hold it against me to say northwestern if you want to go to med school for the experience and want a more laidback atmosphere and washu if you want the knowledge and want to be the ultimatedoctormachine.

No offense to cool NU students, but what turned me on about washu were the laid back students and what turned me off about NU were the, um, not so laid back students.

Maybe it was just who I met when I interviewed, but I was stressed out the whole time I was there. Other than that I obviously can't comment on what the atmosphere of the class is, but I can tell you that at wash u the students are quite chill and very, very cooperative. Can't imagine a better group than my class.

Perhaps your experiences have been with the washu premeds? My girlfriend and I both teach some prep classes, and the washu premeds....geez, good lord they're an uptight bunch. Don't judge the med students based on them, we're across the park, totally different group 🙂

to the OP good luck, and congrats on being in a position to chose between two great schools.

i interviewed at both places and am going to nu. it really depends on what you want. washu is a very academic place and will get you the knowledge and great research opportunities.

of course NU also has great research and academics (not as good as washu) but the advantage is being in an urban med school (if that is what youre looking for). namely...the ability to serve the chicago area especially underpriveleged areas. although i cant talk too much about that at washu cause i know chicago a lot better.

i was accepted at NU off the waitlist and withdrew from the waitlist at washu. all my fam is in chicago...but i also liked NU's heavy concentration on PBL. i love the school.

to the people who say "def washu" stop reading usnews and thinking of schools based on ranking. unless you had a better reason...in which case i have no idea why you said definitely washu without any explanation.
