Anyone know where to buy the tools necessary to wax stuff at home? I'd like to get a head start on my hand skills and learning how to use the various tools.

I rather you wait until school, to be properly taught, than to start now and build up bad habits.

Just enjoy your time off

I am in school. Starting sim clinic in Jan.

My school's inventory guys sell alcohol torches.

Everything else is the same thing they will give you in lab. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy them since it should be in the kit they are handing you soon if they haven't already..

What I did was bought a chunk of molding clay and some clay molding tools (~$30 total). They're not the exact same tools used for waxing and I know wax is different from clay, but I think making little figurines/models using the instruments will help me get familiar with using my hands and manipulating objects in 3D. I don't want to form any bad habits or carve teeth the wrong way or something, but I think this would help just with general dexterity since the only other thing I do with my hands is play the violin and I don't know how translatable that really is.

Honestly that seems like much for a pre-dent/entering D1.

this is off topic but did anyone else think of work from home by fifth harmony when they read this title??

If you're in school bring your instruments home and purchase an alcohol burner if your school doesn't have one. I personally hated waxing at home though. Too many distractions but to each their own.

Maybe you're doing it wrong. Waxing at home is much better. You have to pop in a movie, make a snack, and wax at your leisure

Oh I was always timing myself to see how far I could get in an hour/hour and a half so I was always paying attention to the clock.

This. Nothing like waxing in your PJ's and watching a movie. The thing that sucks is running out of wax or alcohol for the lamp.

I just use my waxing kit from school and propane torch I bought from Home Depot. I love waxing while watching football.
