Hey yall,

Do any of you guys take your wax-ups home to work on? On Monday the 25th, our first wax-up (Viade #7) is due. Everyone thinks theirs sucks and is doing some touch up work on it over the weekend. Our Dental Anatomy instructor suggested we take our bunsen burners home and hook them up to a Bernzomatic Propane Torch so that we could properly heat and work our wax. Now I just recently bought my new construction home and I am terribly afraid of burning it down behind a freaking wax-up but my tooth really needs some serious work. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so please give me some suggestions. I have already tried to ignite this thing once. The gas output was very low and when I lit it, a one and a half foot swaying yellow flame damn near burnt my face off. I don't want that to happen either. So again, if you know anything about this, please share your experience.

thanks

EGADS! Don't use that Bunsen burner-- It's a serious fire hazard if you tried to hook it up at home with all the flammable stuff around a house!

It might take longer to heat your instruments, but just use the Hanau torch-- Still a hazard, but at least it's a bit less dangerous.

When we got our equipment they gave us two types of bunsen burners-one is the type that you hook up in lab and the other is portable which fills up with butane gas. If you can find the second I would highly recommend it. It even comes with a built in lighter. It is called an automatic Bunsen Burner. My is made by DX Dentex. Hope this helps. Good luck with your waxing!

Cusp,

Can we use the prelab over the weekend at Temple?

you can go into the preclinic basically any time you want until 10pm at night...on weekends, it's open from like 7 am till 10pm...or until they kick you out...(they=cleaning people..=oP)

My school's preclinic lab is open 24/7 (get in with a keycard)... Spent many a tedious night there too as a freshman and sophomore.

Sadly upperclassmen like me still have to spend time there-- Still got to do stuff like make our own custom trays, pour up and ditch our own dies and set teeth for dentures. Can't wait to graduate after which I can have someone else do all that stuff for me! 😀

I remember doing that,,,I used to spend most of my time studying and around the night time do my waxing,,hope you enjoy it
wish you the best
