Basically, I hate checking the scrub-board over and over to see if my patient is in pre-op. Is there a way to set EPIC to page me when the patient status changes?

I have not found a way yet. Would also be nice to get a page when the patient status changes to "in the room". Only way I have found to do this is to ask the nurses working pre-op or the OR to page me when the patient gets in the room.

Which medical students shouldn't do at academic centers where the OR nurse now has to page the attending and resident and medical student. Gets to be ridiculous.

Even as a resident, the only reason they page you is because you're essential to the operation.

Man, you're doing it wrong. You should be by the resident/attending becoming bffs so that when evaluations roll out you're the guy (or gal). My whole surgery rotation I just chilled with the senior resident and attending between cases and talked about random crap. Easy honors.

Either hang out with your resident/attending, or hang out with your patient in Pre-Op. Doesn't seem to be an easy fix from the IT side.
