i am an oos applicant and have an interview at wayne state on the 29th. I heard that wayne state is thinking of increasing their class size. is there any truth to this statement?? if yes, will this affect the # of oos applicants accepted? any help will be appreciated

the rumor is the majority of the 30-40 new spots go to out of stater's since the funding from the state did not change

so basically the class size will go from really f-cking huge, to really really f-cking huge.

lol. that's an interesting way to put it

ya you really have a good chance of getting accepted at wayne. just because the OOS fees are ridiculous high...perhaps the highest in the country. most OOS will go elsewhere...wayne is also very selective giving interviews. you have to have a certain mcat and gpa...they interview 700-750 give acceptances to around 450-500...of which 330-350 make up the class. good luck

class is at around 290-300... it's the largest medical campus in the country since everyone stays in detroit all 4 years and there are no "community" campuses

well the 2010 class currently has 332 students actually 😀. they accepted around 300 students you are right, the other 30 are deferals or repeat students.

this is BEFORE the 10% increase which is planned on happening this year i believe.

even though large..it's really a underrated school...lots of oppurtunites to help the underprivileged...and also give lots of scholarships to instate students...more incentives to stay...

😱 wow... that's crazy... I hope to end up there myself. Hopefully I'll have good news by the end of the month

thank you guys for the info...i feel better now after my first post-interview rejection from SUNY-Buffalo 🙁

sonyvaio2700...do you go to wayne? if yes, do you have any tips for the interview? thanks for all your help

you were rejected from buffalo? Were you waitlisted initially?

No, I got accepted to Wayne though...msg me, if you want to know anything about my interviews...

Can any current Wayne students substantiate this? I understand that though the class size is huge, many of the spots are reserved for special programs such as for single mothers, or for underprivileged urban students who get in simply by performing at a decent level at WSU for undergrad, but still not at a level that would gain them acceptance at other schools. Is this true and how does proposal two effect these programs?

I went to Wayne for grad school and have been accepted to the medical school. I've never heard of spots being reserved for the underprivileged. Although I think they do have a BS/MD program where admitted students complete their bachelors degree at Wayne and then have to get a certain score on their MCAT (Im pretty sure it's below a 30, but dont know the exact number) in order to get into the medical school.

That's interesting, I thought that they had a "soft cap" at 300 - since that was about the max that could be in the anatomy lab at any one time.
But then again if the other 32 didn't have to take anatomy this year I could see that.
