There may be some kind of ticket that you can buy that allows unlimited access through the tunnel for a year or something like that. Makes sense.

There is. It alows you to go quickly through customs without questioning. There's a separate lane for those people. Not sure what you need to qualify though, but I don't think it's too tough.

The NEXUS program costs money: $50 US or $80 Cdn for 5 years. It also requires an Interpol background check as well as a list of other qualifications. You'd still have to pay the tolls crossing the bridge, because those are collected before crossing. Once you qualify, you are allowed to use the NEXUS lanes to bypass customs and immigration. You are basically not allowed to take anything with you that doesn't come back with you that doesn't make the return trip with you. Furthermore, you can be selected for random checks. Also, if there's a backup on the bridge/tunnel, as there often is, having NEXUS probably won't help as much, since you still have to get close enough to the end to get into the NEXUS lanes.

I'd say it's possible, and if it's going to save you a considerable amount of money, definitely give it some thought. But on nights before exams, I'd make sure to find somebody in the US who's place you can crash at so you don't risk being late due to some random border backup.

wow I had no idea about any of that, thanks guys for the enlightenment

almost a thread hijack

Does anyone has information on whether Wayne State has a "spouse's club"? My husband is starting as part of class of 2010. We are relocating from CA so I won't be in the Detroit area until Labor Day, but wanted to get involved and meet others who spouses are attending medical school. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Yep, like edu.MD said, there is such a club. Also, there was just an email that went out to everyone in our class relative to how to get involved etc. So, your husband should have that in his inbox.

Good luck!

haha, anybody else see that the studentdoctor.net address was up on the white board at green auditorium during the Gross anatomy intro thing on friday?
