Need an MCAT score, although for once I actually think a writing score might help. A Z is pretty darn impressive lolWhat do you guys think of my chances at Wayne? I'm really interested in the school because I feel I would be exposed to awesome clinical opportunities with underserved patients, which is kind of what my clinical experiences have been thus far.

Yeah, maybe I should just give up on this whole medicine thing and write for the new yorker or the atlantic, lol. in all seriousness though, what do you think I need to score above? because despite my sci gpa, my overall of a 3.3 is going to kill me. I also feel my ec's might be a little weak.

Nothing wrong with your EC's just do a little more clinical and it should be OK. If you can, do some research, but it isn't mandatory. You have an excellent science GPA, but your overall will bring you down. I would say you need 31 or above on your MCAT to be really competitive, but you still have a shot if you can't hit that.
Hey guys, have a quick question. Does Wayne State usually accept a lot of people off of their alternate list? I intereviewed there last month and was placed on the alternate list. What do you think are my chances of getting in? My stats are:
35P
3.7BSM
3 years of lab research + honor thesis
Volunteer at ER
1 year as full-time lab technician
Thanks everyone and Good luck!!

Alternate list did not move at all last year... they actually had to beg people to take a year off in exchange for a free year's tuition. But all years in the past there was considerable waitlist movement. You seem to have all your bases covered on your application... they might have heard about all your other interview invites and decided that you'll get in somewhere else you'd prefer? They might have not thought you were intrested in the school 😕
I have no other clue... your app looks great
Hey Guys,
Do you know if wayne state treats reapplicants differently then new applicants. I interviewed last year was placed on the alternate list until school started, and this year have not heard one thing. I also met with the dean this summer, he said everthing was good, and that "they" would try to get me in this year. And still no word on anything. Have been complete since 9.14

Has Wayne rejected anyone yet?? Other than the pre-secondary rejections, I mean? Are they a school that waits until March or April to send out bulk rejections?
No post-secondary rejections until april or so... be patient

haha no I didn't think Wayne would be giving out invites again till the beginning of December. Congrats though, good luck!
The interview is in December, maybe that is what you reffering to, cause invites sent in early December could be for interviews in the same time as mine😕
Oh well, there is always the job of cleaning public washrooms and living out of a discarded portable toilet. <--- Thats inspiration

So wait, you got an invite in the mail today for an interview in December? Thats pretty awesome, everyone I know of got an invite in November for an interview in December.

Yep, invite letter is dated Nov 1, but it takes almost half a month to get a letter to the biggest city in Canada. It takes just over five hours for my mom to drive to Wayne, and it takes just under four hours for me to drive to Wayne...Canada post and USPS take two weeks, talk about a lack in efficiency and procrastinations, and the slimy part of snail mail
vent..vent..vent..happy..happy..happy
And the interview is in second week of December...oh it feels like December is never going to come...but I am hoping for a really good Christmas present if I get all lucky ... or maybe a nice new year's present

Good to know there are other like me too who are interviewing in December...Is December too late for interviews? When was the first interview?
Cheers

OK so apparently Wayne is giving out invites this week or something... can anyone help put my neurotic mind at ease? Someone just posted on the Invite thread with one from Wayne dated for yesterday. I thought Wayne's ADCOM wouldn't meet until the beginning of December. Does anyone know when the last time they met was and how they freakin work????????????????
Good luck Canadians! I am from Vancouver, BC and was accepted to Wayne State class of 2011. If you have questions, feel free to PM me.
I interviewed on the 20th (this past Tuesday) and was told the Admissions people are meeting on the 28th to make decisions on the applicants they have interviewed since their last meeting. I was told I could call between 1pm and 5pm that day to find out my status!!! I really loved it there, actually more than I thought I would! I really hope they offer me a spot! 😀
Just got an invitation to interview on Jan 10th! This just made my thanksgiving! wohoo!

you've been PM'ed 😉
for those who have already interviewed... What was it like? where there any questions that threw you off? and also, how many other people are there interviewing with you (small or large group?)
Thanks!
even though this interview is over a month away, I'm already getting super excited!!!
Thanks!

I interviewed at Wayne a few weeks ago. Question for those currently attending: does anyone live close to the school or do most students live out in the suburbs? What about camaraderie among the students? Actual community involvement? When I asked my tour guide about local coffee shops, he just looked at me funny and said that he would stick to studying on-campus because it's not safe to walk down the street by myself. ??? Any thoughts?
I'm a resident at WSU and if you live in Grosse Pointe or Harper Woods area, its nice, stone-throw away from downtown, and there are several nice coffee shops starbucks, caribou coffeehouse, beanery, etc...
I actually have a house to rent in Harper Woods if interested...

Things are always subject to change but historically...
- there are between 4 and 8 people interviewing on any given interview day.
- all interviews are one-on-one
- IIRC you only interview once (so the school's impression of you is based on your application and one interviewers thoughts)

I interviewed with 2 other people. It was a one-on-one interview that lasted about 45 min. He basically told me to think of him as my advocate to the admissions committee so I needed to make sure I told him everything I wanted the admissions committee to hear. I felt it was very laid back, no trick questions, and overall a great experience. Our tour guide was a first year and at first I thought that we would not learn much (since it was only his first year) but he was very informed and passionate about the school. They pay for you to get lunch and my group ate with a bunch of first-years. That was great because they told us all about being first-years, and also they actually seemed geniunely interested in us. Everyone was incredibly friendly! I loved the school! Hope your experience is as good as mine was!!

Who was your student tour guide?
I cannot remember his name now (it was such a whirlwind day!) but he loved sandwiches, and showed us every place to get good sandwiches on campus (along with showing us the other important aspects of the school 😉) I just left the school feeling that the students loved it there and that they were so open and friendly!

i called wayne state this morning for my application status, and they said "possible interview"
is this what they tell everyone who got a secondary and has not yet gotten an interview?

They told me the same thing. I'm not sure if that's an unofficial hold...
I called today and asked about my status, since they've had all my stuff for about two months. They told me that I was 'possible inteview', so I asked her what that meant. She told me that my file hadn't been reviewed AT ALL yet (apparently they dont look at the file in the order you were complete, but have some other weird method I didnt really understand).
She said that they havent read through my file, and were making decisions on people who had already interviewed rather than making many interview invites (?) She also said that in the next few weeks they are going to switch over from reviewing already interviewed candidate files, to reviewing files in order to invite MORE people. So they only do one or the other at that office for a few weeks, then switch over.
She told me to start looking for something in the mail during Dec. That really narrows it down 🙁

Make that three. I emailed them about a week ago and I got the same answer.
thats what I thought, and I just got an invite last week. I submitted my app first day in june. I finished the secondary as soon as it was sent out and was complete soon after. Hadn't heard a thing from them for 3 months and then the invite came
Keep some faith!!

Based on comments from previous years; is the "weird method" perhaps MCAT scores?

I don't think so. There were 2 people on SDN recently invited to Wayne who had 32 MCAT. I have 2 friends with 30 MCAT who got invited in the beginning of November. I have no idea how Wayne is working right now. I called the lady today and she said they will possibly meet to give out more invites this coming Monday. Who knows...
Got my letter in the mail after Thanksgiving, (33MCAT)
Today the admissions people are meeting to make decisions on people who were already interviewed (I am supposed to call between 1-5pm!! 😱) so hopefully they will send out more interview invites after that! Keep your fingers crossed for me!! 🙂
