Today the admissions people are meeting to make decisions on people who were already interviewed (I am supposed to call between 1-5pm!! 😱) so hopefully they will send out more interview invites after that! Keep your fingers crossed for me!! 🙂

I'm right there with you, waiting to call in a few hours! Good luck to you!! :luck:

Accepted! I am in shock!! I am so excited....(as this is my top choice and my first acceptance!) 😀

CA Cowgirl...any news? Or anyone else for that matter??

Hey
I am on their alternate list... Apart from sucking, what does this mean? A delayed rejection?

the med student told me that the alternate list is like a waitlist, and there is tremendous movement on the waitlist. hope that's some good news

Hey
I do hope that there is a lot of movement on that list!
Has anybody been rejected post interview at Wayne? I haven't met anybody who has got a rejection post-interview yet...

Congrats MDrunner! That is great news, especially since its your first choice! I can only imagine how excited you are!! 🙂

As for me, I'm on the alternate list. I guess that's what I get for being a CA resident. Oh well. More waiting. At least they'll consider my app again at next month's meeting so I can call and check again then.

I got in! It's great because I grew up right across the river.

Good luck to those on the alternate list, just bide your time.

Called just now and cheked my status "Possible Interview," have we decided if that was good or bad? I've been complete since early september?

'Possible interview' is the equivalent to 'under review'. It's their way of saying you havent been decided on yet.

I was rejected last year and just got my Wayne acceptance yesterday!

when they say possible interview, it means you are seriously considered for an interview, but they have not scheduled your interview date yet. I called one week before my interview invite and that is the message they gave me so it is still good news for you. Do not give up hope at Wayne.

When does the adcom meet in December? I got an interview on the tenth...

Good luck to others who have December interview.

Cheers ya all
Piyush.

i like your optimism, but i don't agree with you

The December meeting is 12/19. When you go for your interview, they'll give you a sheet with the information for calling about your decision, and will let you know if your application is considered at that month's meeting or the next.

Good luck with your interview!

Ohh, I hope I get a nice Christmas present 19th is close enough...I am going to be a good boy now, and maybe Santa will be with the adcoms...Here is something to start raking in some good karma:

I hereby solemnly swear that I will donate all other Christmas presents to charity if I get into Wayne State.

I hope Santa reads this post, lol

Cheers

anyone know the grading system at Wayne State? Congrats to those who have gotten accepted!!!

The classes are Pass/Fail/Honors and you are graded on what they call an "S-curve". Basically the average score of the class is a 500 (which is pass) one standard deviation above that is a 600 (which is honors) an one standard deviation below is a 400 (the minium grade to pass). 🙂

Thanks!!! for the info.. Good Luck! Get ready for the work! :luck:

so i am on the alternate list or whatever but i received a letter in the mail explaining the alternate list and it said that my application review was rated/ranked "high". i was just curious if anyone else received the same thing, if everyone ranked high, or anything about it really.

Congrats about the "high" ranking! And thanks for that tidbit about the letter. I'm on the alternate list as well, but have not yet received the letter. I live out in CA, and when I called Wednesday they said the letters would be in the mail that day. I'll let you know when I receive my letter to compare, but I may not get it until early next week....it depends on how quick US mail is.

A close to accurate discription of a very confusing system.
One change that I would make to the above is that a 75% is always a passing score (even if the class does extemely well and the mean - 1 SD is well above 75%)

Waitlisters/alternates. Good luck to you. Hope that they get their act together and don't over-accept again. I know a lot of people last year that deserved to get in but didn't get a chance and there was no waitlist movement.

they accepted more people than usual...

I noticed from the wayne state university interview reviews here on SDN that lots of applicants get asked what their high school class size/rank/ACT score was. I know the class size, but really dont have a clue about rank. The school board never gave that information out. I got honors, and a separate scholars diploma certificate. As for the ACT, never wrote that test...any suggestions on how to handle this type of question with so little information to reply with?

Help me out guys,
Piyush.

Hey Piyush...
When i was asked that i told my interviewer that our high school didnt rank but if i had to put a make a subjective judgment i would say top 20 percent (i just pulled that number ouf of no where because i went a very competitive highschool and my real ranking was prob not close to that). Anyways they really dont seem to care about this question to much...i told the interviewer my SAT score and told him i forgot my ACT score because i didnt report it...He didnt care...Hope that helps

Anyways when is ur interview...Good luck man i hope i see u next year...

PEACE

Dec ten in the morning...I hope I see ya too 🙂

CheifSaab, uper wale se duwa karo ke ham jaroor milenge. fir to duniya ki koi takat hame milne se rokh nahi sakti, adcoms kya cheese hai..

Oh, I find it so amusing to write hindi/urdu in english, lol..And if all you non desi's could understand up there was ham, adcoms and cheese, don't worry about me spreading them on my next sandwich lol

Cheers
Piyush.

You can tell them what your average was... e.g., 85% or 90% or 95% etc.

does anybody know how many acceptances wayne sends out? I just got placed on the alternate list, so I am wondering how many spots are left. Thanks for any info.

I did my residency at UofM and fellowship at Wayne State. I've been exposed to and supervised graduates of all the med schools in Michigan.

I've been very impressed with the Wayne State med students. Very capable, smart, and hard working. There is a clear difference between Wayne State med students and UofM med students. Less clear between Wayne State and the other med schools in Michigan.

Can you explain a little?

I don't really know, but here is some info that might affect the answer. I heard from the student giving the tour that last year they overadmitted accidentally and so offered some people a year's tuition if they agreed to defer for a year. If this is actually the case, they may have slightly fewer spots (though with 300 spots this is minute) and they may be slightly more conservative with their acceptances.

Also, I'm not 100% sure that it was last year they were talking about, but I am pretty sure. Perhaps some Wayne State students could confirm this?

good luck everyone!! :luck:

Oh no...thirty, why could that not be just three....

Crap... 30 is a lot!

IIRC the adcom has six (?) days when you are supposed to call in and in theory on each of those days they accept 1/6th of the class.

sry, the adcom meets only six times? Did I miss something? and decides the fate of fourty five students?

I'm a bit out of the loop (since I haven't had to deal with this for a few years), but as memory serves the adcom releases changes in admission status (alternate listed or accepted) six (but maybe eight) times during the course of the year [list of dates on which to call admission office for current status given to applicants on interview day].
However, the adcom meets weekly (at least I think that's how often a friend was going to meetings when he was on the adcom) to discuss the recently interviewed applicants and to review the folks on the alternate list.

The exception to the above being during the summer when they are pulling people off the alternate list to fill out the class.

Ah so students only hear from adcoms six/eight times a year, while the adcoms continue to work in between. So, I could be decided upon earlier, but they wont tell me unless its one of the six/eight days?

I feel like we're really getting screwed applying this year. Not only are there 30 students who deferred taking seats, but I believe this is the first year the Med Start kids are joining the class.

Please Wayne State, PLEASE interview me!!!!

what percentage of the people that interview end up getting accepted. I'm not talking about matriculated either

In my copy of the US News, these are the numbers for in-state:

1,082 applied
571 were interviewed
402 were accepted
227 were enrolled.

I'm holding out hope!

four fifths of the people that are interviewed get accepted? That dont sound that good, but I still like the odds as written. Also, I would have thought more than a thousand people might apply. Wierd huh, in Canada, applicants go into tens of thousands.

Those were the "in-state" stats....so 1000 people from Michigan applied. The stats for out-of-state were not listed!

No wonder, I am OOS...so I consider myself half screwed, and half nailed.

Oh well, I will let ya all know how my interview was...I really wanna study at WSU, we will see.

Wish me luck
Piyush.

Well, I put up the in-state stats because I was pretty sure the poster was in-state. Here are the stats for out-of-staters:

1640 applied
213 were interviewed
102 were accepted
30 were enrolled

This US News is from a couple cycles back too, so I think it would be a safe estimate that more out-of-state people are applying than that. Every school seems to be getting more out-of-state applications these last few cycles.
