yea i realized the mdapps thing right after i posted😳... well good luck getting the answers tomorrow!

and yea it is sad that us SDNers won't really get to interact that much... oh well i guess we'll see in the fall😀! are you going to wayne for sure??

Yup im going to wayne fo sure...so if your going as well....we must get together and start a club or something. If you got any ideas do share...i was always thinking about starting a club for poverty alleviation since Detroit is like one of the poorest cities in America. If you got any ideas share them...
Thanks for listening

Next call in, wednesday at 1 pm. My last hope. C'mon WSU (my first choice too though)

i sure hope so... someone said that if you buy a house or condo in michigan, then you can declare residency and then you can pay IS tuition, but i'm not too sure...

Not 100% on this, but from talking to someone that was a year ahead of me, I would say...

'fraid not. I think that her only choice would have been to marry someone from Michigan and then maybe she could have gotten in-state tuition.

I would suggest that you contact the folks in financial aid (at least one of them is really good) and run that question past them.
BTW I don't think that it's a WSU thing, but rather a state of Michigan thing that if you start off as an OOS student then that is the rate you have to pay all the way through. Also think that it takes more than just owning some property to declare residency - that information could probably be found on the state website (www.michigan.gov).

But for anyone that wants to try that route, my place will be up for sale this summer.

I'm pretty sure that it's near to impossible to get residency status after you start as an OOS at any MI school. That's why most OOS try to defer a year if they want to save the loan costs. I know this holds for MSUCOM and MSUCHM, and an OOS friend was told she couldn't get in-state tuition if she started as an OOS student at Wayne. Definitely clarify the details with the financial aid office before finalizing your decision!

thanks for letting me know, otherwise i would have had to pay for a house AND OOS tuition!😀

If you are looking for club ideas, here is one that a couple of friends and I started at back here in Canada at our home university:

The idea is to promote post secondary education. For most big cities, and for Detroit for sure, way too many kids quit education after or during high school. If they make it into college or university or some trade school, they will stand a better chance of improving their life, the life in the city, the city's standard of living, as well as the local economy. The idea then is to visit local high schools, specially those that are inner city, low recourses, high drop out rate high schools and mentoring students, or doing lectures/presentations/seminars on the transition from high school to post secondary education. This transition could include everything from preparing to apply to university /college to finding ways to fund/finance that higher education to campus life when moving to bigger/smaller city, etc.

lol, I got my agenda of making this type of projects more frequent, so I figured if you are looking for club ideas, here is one to consider.

Cheers
Piyush.

Also I just got an interview to Wayne State for March 17th. 28Q / 3.6GPA / 3.6sGPA OOS. I got the letter in the mail and it included an orange sheet of paper (campus map). So if anybody gets a letter from them with an orange piece of paper inside, rejoice!

If you would have read the paper they gave you at the interview you would've known that the time to call in was 1 PM - 5 PM.

... so this shouldnt really be news to anyone

I am on my third one since last night

do they re-review all applicants at every meeting?
I ask only because I see you got the WL in Jan... so did they tell you to keep calling in to see if there is any movement?

wow i'm so sorry that i was calling from japan and hoped that i could get the result before i had to go to sleep at midnight considering that 1 pm in detriot is 3 am here. jesus. just trying to help ppl out here. no reason to go insulting me.

there has been waitlist movement this year already, so it could be worth it to call. i know i don't want to, i'd rather find out by mail from now on anyways.

GOOD LUCK to everyone calling in today -- i hope everyone hears good news!!!!!!👍

Well I called and I am now on the alternate list. I used to be on the waitlist, but apparently I've been downgraded. WTF???!!!

i believe waitlist = alternate list...

ive been waitlisted -- sux.

So, did anyone get in??? I'm waiting with crossed fingers for you guys! How about paradocs? Are ya out there, paradocs? 🙂

Still on the alternate list.

I asked if there has been any movement and was told there has been "very little" movement. I was advised, if I have any friends who have multiple acceptances, to ask them to decide whether or not to attend Wayne. Since I'm not one of these lucky people with multiple choices, I wanted to post this here.

It makes me wonder why they even bothered to extend the interview season to early April, if all they're doing is waitlisting a good deal of them. Are they just stockpiling a waitlist or what?

Hey guys...

I just called Wayne and asked the difference btwn waitlist and alt. list. Apparently waitlist is the top 1% of the alternate list. Also, she said its all ranked but theres no way for us to find out what our rank is.

She also said this was the first time all cycle that they were able to offer acceptances to people off any type of list.

Hope this helps!

ACCEPTED!!!
Just called in 2/27 .... my first acceptance I am beyond excited

I am going to be a doctor!

Congrats man. 👍 Doesn't it feel great? It's like a huge monkey off your back, it was for me at least. Now you get to relax and enjoy your free time 😀

Accepted! First one, big relief for sure. Wayne was my #1 realistic choice from the beginning, I'm so excited. Plus, my twin brother if attending Detroit Mercy for dental school. Unfortunately, my best bud got alternate listed...bummer

Congrats are in order for you too then. You're in, soon-to-be Dr. DocCallway, MD. Nice ring to it 👍

Thanks for the info Abby52 and congrats Dr. Dan!

Fisko, are you still holding on to all of your acceptances?? That's an impressive list, my man! Make sure you let us know when you free some of those extra seats up!! Congrats 👍

🙂🙂😀😀😀😀😀😀

I'm in. OOS. 31 on mcat. Non-trad. First acceptance. It's not quite sinking in yet, seeing as how for the last 4+ years of my life have been all about not being admitted to med school yet.

Yeah, although not to be disrespectful to other applicants. I was advised by several people to hold onto any/all acceptances until the first week of May, because it could potentially impact your fin. aid package. Not to sound greedy or anything, but I'm dirt poor and could use $ if offered 😳 Also, I'm still unsure as to where I want to go; I'll have a better picture of this sometime in March (I think).

And for those yet to hear from Wayne, if trooper/Calloway/Dr_dan are any indication, it appears Wayne is still very much interviewing for spots to their 2012 class. I'd say this is good news for those yet to interview. (btw: I'm pulling for you and ymncheetos to get interview invites; both of you would definitely be assets to Wayne's class 👍 )

Thank you sir, goodluck to everyone still interviewing. And to the people on the alternate/waitlist, I think there will be alot more movement than last year, simply because of what happened last year.

Congrats everyone who got in!!! I hope to see some of you this August!! 🙂

Hey, I don't begrudge those of you that got multiple acceptances! You deserve them! It only makes sense to wait until you know the financial aspect if you at all liked the school...I know it would be a huge deciding factor for me as well. I was just curious!

Invite here for late March! I better not screw it up. Do you guys know when the call in date is?

Thanks fisko, I can't believe I finally have one!

Yay cheetos!! When did you get that letter?? I'm so glad you got an interview at Wayne, you are most definitely deserving of it! You'll rock it I'm sure!

Hey guys,

I just called at about 4:30 pm - I'm accepted!! I am a Canadian who interviewed back in late October and was placed on the alternate list since then (NOT Waitlist). I sent a letter of update in Dec and an additional letter of recommendation in early Feb if anyone wanted to know. Congrats to other acceptees as well!
