FSU
Pros

  • In-state = cheaper, ~ 26k/year tuition
  • Closer to family
  • Won't have to move as far

Cons

  • Extremely primary care focused
  • 2 years in Tallahassee 2 years at a regional campus.
  • Little research

Wayne State
Pros

  • Ton of home residency programs
  • Ton of research opportunities
  • Established school

Cons

  • OOS = Tuition ~67k/year
  • Cold weather
  • Far from family

Still waiting for financial aid from both schools. Was also accepted to Drexel and Quinnipiac but would pick Wayne over them as long as costs are the same.

Go for FSU. 160k extra in tuition for Wayne does not sound worth it. Particularly if you have to move away from family and into cold weather. I still see some ortho residency matches as well as a plastics, ophthalmology and urology one.

Though a decent school, Wayne St is no powerhouse. Not worth the extra $160K.
And plenty of FSU students go into the competitive subspecialties, every if more students are primary care-focused.
