Say a student was already accepted to the med school and fulfilled all the prereqs, are they still required to finish up their 2nd semester of senior year and get a bachelors degree? (I have something to do during that time that would otherwise require me to defer a year)

thanks

I am preety sure bachelors degreee is required. you might want to ask the adcom that...call them up and try not to tell them your name and AAMC number.

If you weren't able to finish your degree prior to matriculation the school would be well within their power (and quite likely to) retract your acceptance on the grounds that you did not fulfill the plans that you had listed on the application that they had favorably reviewed.

This isn't to say that you can't alter some plans for spring semester after getting an acceptance, but deciding to drop out of school or neglect finishing up your degree would likely be a dealbreaker.

It says in the acceptance letter that their offer is contingent upon completing the degree specified on AMCAS.

#1 call the folks in admissions and see what they say. And you can ask about the process for deferring at the same time.
#2 do you NEED the 2nd semester of your senior year to meet all the requirements for your degree?

OP-there is your answer!!!

I highly doubt that you could just drop all of your classes and not finish your bachelors. Remember there are THOUSANDS of other people sitting on an acceptance and still have to finish out the year. I feel like everyone would blow off the year if they could.
