Time, energy and money are very short. Anyone do or have an idea for something I can do to "make some money on the side" without the responsibility of a real job?

I'm hoping for some creative ideas out there.

Thanks

Well, if you have the time to learn how to play proper strategy, poker is a completely acceptable means to make a little cash on the side. Especially if you live near a casino, but online works just as well.

Freelance biology, physiology, biochem, etc. tutoring to high school or undergrad students in your area. Tutors can charge $40-$50/hr in some places. Plus it's a good review for you.

sell methamphetamine to classmates during finals

I taught at the local community college during year 1 (phat money), and I tutored a couple of middle school kids during year 2. I made $25 an hour for the kids, but I made $40 an hour back in Dallas, tutoring for the private school. I had more work than I could handle, also...just a thought. People will give you all kinds of opportunities knowing that you are a med student.

you can always ***** yourself out..... :meanie:

but seriously....i was thinking of something 2 get money also...

i was thinking of either tutoring or since I tend to be aritstic...selling stuff i make

dunni if anyone will buy it though but i make fretty nice candles and etched glass stuff....hehe

u can try something like that cause i doubt you will have time for anything more substancial

and we all need money so it never hurts 2 try something...

oh....sell a binch of stuff on e-bay...can make a pretty nice profit 😀

Don't you need a teaching license for this kind of stuff? Like a degree in bio wouldn't suffice for teaching right?

Not only would a degree for bio suffice, but in the right case, it would be sufficient to teach Chemistry!

You do not have to have a teaching license to tutor or to teach at the community college/university level. Colleges and universities usually want you to have a masters degree, but if they have a spot that has to be filled they will take a BA/BS.

If you do have a teaching license (as I do) you can generally charge more to tutor. In the same town as Idio, I won't tutor for under $40/hr.

Check Amazon.com for the following title:

You are in NY which is a great thing. Lots of rich people here and the service industry can do well.

I'm a personal trainer in NYC and charge $90/hr for private sessions which is about the going rate on the upper east side. if you have 3 solid clients that train twice a week you are doing well for only 6 hours of work each week! Getting 3 solid clients is no easy task but doable if you have the time and refs.

Massage therapist do just as well if not better but takes more education to get a certificate.

I'd imagine being in med school would enhance your ability to attract clients if you had a very respectable certificate (like CSCS for Personal Training) and references.

2 opportunities at KCUMB to make a little spare cash:

1) If your grades are good enough, you can tutor fellow students and the school will pay you for your time.

2) Your school may offer the chance to enroll in certain clinical studies that will pay you money. These include sleep and pharmacology studies. If you are getting paid, it probably means the research might involve something unpleasent, like giving frequent blood samples or sleeping the night wearing an EEG or EKG.

I worked as a medical malpractice defense paralegal throughout medical school. Great experienced and it helped with my residency application, as barely anyone had that sort of experience to put on their resume!

What about selling plasma?

WOW EVERYONE!

To those with the goofy answers thanks for the laughs and for rest of you there are some great ideas out there- Thanks a lot!!!

I'm going to start looking around!

Thanks again!

May I suggest stripping?

If you're female, you could sell your eggs. I heard they go for $8,000 to $10,000!

TRUST ME, you don't want me stripping...

P.S. I'm a dude

DrMom, the creme' de la creme of tutors. . 😀

blackmail works nicely as well, but it sometimes takes some detective work.

I tutored for $20/hr at a community college and for $9/hr at University while I was an undergrad (no degrees earned)

They'll let you tutor that way, but they wouldn't let you teach an academic class. My reference to CC was only for teaching, not tutoring. In other words I was talking about private tutoring ....and... teaching at a CC. 🙂

No kidding? How does one introduce yourself to those kinda people?

I'm also looking for an "on the side" job for the coming year. I gotta trip to Europe that needs funding. :meanie:

I had an 'in' at the local private school...but you could just as easily take your credentials up to such a school and sign up to be on the tutor list. I think it was that easy at St. *****, where I tutored 😉
