Osteopathic Medicine, We know the problem, We get our hands Around IT!

Hoorah for DO's

(I realize that I am being a bit over the top, but come on!)

I was just reading this forum and really, I am struck by the fact that we really are getting and learning to put our hands on problems that drugs cannot touch in many ways... Do not mistake me for one to not use medicinal therapy, but rather one to use my hands to find the root of the real problems and address it for what it is.... LIFE....

I am SOOO glad to have this aptly placed "Tool" in my belt of medicine...

How about YOU?

Ian

c'mon people where are u and your support?

I am very glad as well... but I think my family members will take advantage of me in a couple of years... more practice for me.

Onmyway you can say that again.

I am already getting emails and calls asking me what is the best thing to do.
Especially things to replace medication... my answer.. I don't know.. do google.

Same here - I was at a family reunion a couple of weeks back and I got this "hey cuz, my lower back has really been giving me trouble, what do you think it could be?"

I get stuff from people at church also. I keep telling them, "try me again in 7 years."

Haha same here. People always ask me about their medical problems. I always say, "Ask me again in four years. But if you want to know something about biology, I'm your man 🙂"

true, but my wife absolutely loves what we have learned in OMM

I can't wait to start learning! **Jumping up and down**

yeah, its pretty cool. but do you guys ever wonder what actually happens when a patient is treated with OMM? For the last 100 years since it start, the profession has been sustained by testimonials by the millions of patients who swear by it, but the scientific data is relatively small. I think for DO's to gain "mainstream" status and visablity, the profession will need to carry out lots of research, which is already underway at the older DO schools.

i personally think it has alot to do with pyschoneuroimmunology. happy patients heal faster in lay terms. IMO the DO profession is like space, tons of discoveries to be made and us scientific savy students of today will carry it far without losing its roots and personal attention.

Pelvic diaphragmatic release seems to warrant the greatest amount of research attention IMHO.

are there any schools that have focus on OMM research? Also, some schools refer to it as OMM, where as others refer to it as OMT, i know what they stand for but...is one acronym more mainstream?

yeah some schools use OMT, but i think the pc word is OMM since it has both a therapy and diagnostic component.
